Jerry Romig is an aquired taste, but he's also a Saints institution. I actually like the old-school sound of his voice.
One of my favorite Romig memories was back in 2001 when we were playing the Jets on Sunday night (the Turley helmet toss game).
The Jets fans were in full-force and just obnoxious as all get out.
The Yankees were playing the Diamondbacks in game seven of the world series.
Late in the game, Romig came over the PA:
"We have a final from Arizona -- The New York Yankees 2 ... the Arizona Diamondbacks (long pause) 3!
The Arizona Diamondbacks have won the World Series!"
The obnoxious Jets fans shut up for just a few minutes . It was funny and beautiful.

Exactly. What else does a PA guy have to do? I don't want one of those over-zealous types that sound like a fake radio DJ.
I think most people just don't like his voice. When I was young I was the same way, but I've grown to appreciate his style.
And I was actually thinking the other day how bad it's gonna suck when he passes away and we get a new PA guy.

I am not a fan but wont crucify the guy either. I believe the Superdome accoustics and his voice clash. His voice BOOMS over the speakers. The next PA guy should have a voice that fits more with the Dome accoustics. Sorry...I never notice the PA guys most of the time but he has always caught my attention in a negative way.

Anyone who can't decipher whether he is saying pass complete or incomplete is obviously not watching the game attentively enough. Keep trying to explain to your football-retarded girlfriend what just happened. Kinda like the blind leading the blind. You should be watching the refs and players, not waiting for the call!@#$%^
And 50/50 is waaaaaaay off. More like 75/25; which is a decent average for anyone in the public spotlight.
And for all the people comparing him to other announcers, why not provide a list of people that are better and why? And the list better be higher than 15 because that would put JR right where the mass of idiots in this thread have him.
