Southgate II (2). Not towers. It's over kind of by El Cid and Embassy. Same side of Burbank as as embassy, one block farther down the road. They're nice enough little places. Small and very open. In the 650-750 range I believe.

I got a friend that rents out a studio apartment in the Garden district, all utilities included for 700. It's currently available

I'm not sure if he'd be up for it, but my house has a studio attached to it in Midcity that will be up for rent starting in early june. The guy living there pays somewhere in the $300-350 range, has a bed, bathroom, small kitchen, yard, and is animal friendly.
Radio bar is right down the street and it's only a 10 min drive to campus. It'd be an easy way to save some $$ as long as you're up for it. Good luck in your search

Tell your son that being able to bike to campus in 5 minutes is freaking incredible.

You're not going to find an apartment that cheap around LSU unless you want him to live in Tiger Land or past the Wiener Schnitzel on Highland. 
Most nice 1 bedrooms/studios are going to be between $850-$1000/month.

Tigertown was the bomb back in my days. You could get a safe one bedroom shithole for like $300/month. Section 8 sucks!

Yep. I lived in a 2br 1 block from campus. I could walk to class in the williams/life sciences area in 10 min, but biking was 5 min to just about anywhere on campus. I wish I was still that close to school. And still had a bike. And didn't have to pass through sketch city on the way.
