He’s also very intelligent and lies compulsively because he thinks he can outsmart you. It’s very frustrating. My husband loses his temper and yells at him. I’ve tried reasoning with him. Nothing works. We are considering therapy, but I don’t know where to start.
Not to derail the thread with your kid’s issue, but this is textbook fear of abandonment. He lies and acts out because he’s testing you to see how far he can go without you turning on him. Subconsciously, he wants to know what that limit is, because there’s security in knowing that. Your job - a hard one - will be convincing him that there is no limit. Try your best to keep that in mind… it’s hard to do!

Yes, every one of mine does something physical and music. He's very good at music and, come to think of it, I don't ever remember him melting down over it.

I teach my kids to work through hard things and that failure is a necessary step towards success. Thus the wrestling. It is a hard thing that you have to work hard at and fail repeatedly before you succeed.
I understand what you’re trying to accomplish, but this child may learn differently than you and your other children did, or he may just hate wrestling…
I would seek professional help. There may be issues at play that you can’t solve by yourself.

You sound like a father who encourages toxic masculinity among his sons.

Sounds like control issues. He can control musical outcomes and get better. He can't control the wind but is damn determined to do it. You got a stubborn mule on your hand. A mule will kick the shite out of wolf in the real world any day. You just gotta help him find his thing and he will be a boss. Hell there is money to be made in video games. Send him to a coding academy and he can build his own metaverse where he can control the wind. Joking/not joking.

Stop letting him watch tv and play video games, make him go outside. Kids today have too much entertainment access and it makes them soft.
Not only do we not own a gaming system, we don't own a TV. They have 60 acres to roam.
All the kids are hard except 1.

I don’t know why he would fear abandonment because he’s from a loving home. But he always does push limits. We’ll draw a line in the sand, and he has to just stick one toe over so that he gets punished. We’ve done this little song and dance 100 times. I’ve told him many, many times that nothing will ever cause us to stop loving him. But at the same time, he has to understand that actions have consequences.

We pulled the plug on cable when our oldest was a baby. The kids have tvs with a DVD player.
We only had 1 tv, 14 yrs of marriage until last year.
I’m a boring millennial

I feel like this is my son. Once he learns to pick his battles, he will be an unstoppable force.

I’d rather be tough on my kids then the perfect ones who have no brain later in life and everything handed to them.

Fortunately you don't need an X box or a flat screen to get on TD.
