Don’t know too much about SU, but my buddy picked up a masters at Grambling a few years back and he said not only could many fellow students not read and write very well but that several of his teachers couldn’t either
I believe this. This one chick who I liked in college talked me into taking a summer class with her at SU. We both took chemistry and the difficulty level was equivalent of an 8th grade class. It really was sad.

Not really an accomplishment? The kid is 11 for crying out loud. At 11 what were you doing other than eating glue and shoving crayons up your nose. Smh

That's totally not true and unfounded. Damn near everyone I went to school with have a good job and are doing well.
I graduated from Southern in Electrical Engineering and now grossing well over six figures not including bonuses. It hasn't prevented me from growing and becoming successful. Actually, it has helped me become the person I am today because you learn how to be resourceful at a school like Southern. Throughout my life, I've learned the only way you can truly fail at anything is if:
1. you don't try,
2. you give up, or
3. become complacent.
The reason why I'm sharing this is to encourage the aspiring young people in here who read this type of crap and think a good school will automatically develop them better than any another institution. Success is greatly dependent on the drive and dedication of the individual. Yes, there are other things in play that determines your success, but if your focus is on doing your best to learn and grow in whatever you choose to do in life, then where you decide to attend school for undergrad really don't matter that much. Look at how many people are successful in this country without having gone to college. Bottom line is as long as you are willing to learn and not settle, you can be successful.

Well besides those two "winners" I personally took classes with, I also had the "pleasure" of dealing with a SU law grad that was doing some work for me and did some shady shite and got disbarred and costed me over $1k that he just ran off with.
If this kid is good enough to get a full ride to a college at 11, he should go somewhere better than Southern. It has nothing to do with race.
ETA: And he shouldn't go to LSU either before you say that's my message.

There are shady people in all forms of life. I'm sure if I look into the background of some of the people that did me wrong, I'll find some LSU grads, Harvard grads, TAMU grads, etc. The kid can still do well in life with choosing to go to SU. It's all up to him and how driven he is. I wasn't an A-student at any point during my schooling and it didn't stop me.

He has more options though. IF you had a kid that could get a free ride at 11, you're going to tell him Southern is the best option?
Give me a break.

Kid might be better off getting the standard public education.

Good job by him, but why would a brilliant kid want to go to Southern, regardless if it is a full ride?

Good for that young man...

Nah, it's that the OT is full of the most negative curmudgeons in existence.
Some of you would lose oxygen and die if you ever had to be positive.

Good for him, but if his parents were smart, they would hold off for an offer to ANY OTHER school out there.

In this case, I think it's absolutely because that kid can 100% do better.
Him going to Southern is a waste, regardless of what he does after.

Sure, he graduated at 15 but at 25 he will be a 25 year old with a degree from Southern.
This! Geez, somebody needs to tell this kid, it’s not about finishing first, it’s about finishing best.

I'm sure he'll find a good grad school.

Or publicity stunt?
From the quality I've seen interviewing graduates of that school, he's paying just about what that education is worth.

Congrats to this young man for all his hard work. Also, Heaps of praise for his parents. That is a lot of hard work on their parts too.
I am also curious about the choice of SU. I am guessing it has something to do with the proximity of their home. He cannot go to MIT by himself and his parents may not be able to accompany him.
It is a start.

To all the people saying he would do better somewhere else, has the thought ever occurred that he's 11 years old and it may benefit to go to school in his home town? He's obviously been raised well, so it is likely a good thing that he will be able to stay in his parents house and continue to grow up and be taught things that are just as important as a good classroom education. He's entering his formative years, I'm sure the guidance from a good family will be in his best interests, rather than shipping him off to live in a dorm with some 18-20 year old at a "better school."

This kid will probably have a degree and a job before Volod

Good job kid! Congratulations! Take the free ride to Southern then find a great grad school, get a Ph D, and become a doctor.
