Haha that would help. But I like to try and lean and mean for hikes. And carrying a heater is a no go.

shite when i was a kid we would go hunting and slept in a small camp with no heat. Several mornings we woke up and the drinks left out had frozen inside. We were fine.

Something is fishy here.

When many of us in this thread pass on from our natural lives, we'll have the luxury of having our deaths not being a political spark and forgotten about with a click of a mouse. Your family and friends will remember your life and memories you made with them. Quite a nice thing to have if you stop to think about it - I ask everyone to take a moment to process that a young human life is gone and a family is grieving.

I'm confused here. It's the parents fault or the electric company's fault? Sue them both?

I dont know the.details. but if parents had viable options, instead of tucking in a kid at 12 degrees for 2 days, then they shouldn't be parents
Regardless, the supplier holds interest in neglect if their actions caused harm thru neglect.

And I'm sorry, its neglect if you try and say "oops, were all out of that electricity "
There is NO WAY they haven't thought "what if" and ran thru this .
They decided not to spend more to upgrade capacity, all in the name if profit.

Govmmnt regulates this. Why would it be so hard to have a regulation in place demanding you are able to supply every home in your service area at full capacity, especially in emergencies.
They get protected areas by regulation. Therefore, customer has no options.

I'm not downplaying the failure of the Texas power grid, but what part does personal responsibility and preparedness, or lack there of, play in this?

Do you go buy water, candles, flashlights, batteries, and canned goods before a hurricane?

Do you know something we don't? Did these parents intentionally kill their kid? Honestly, your flippant reaction to a kid losing his life is wild. I may be thinking of someone else but I thought you were a reasonable one.

Reasonably a parent wouldn't put their child to bed alone in 12 degree Temps. They would all huddle together for warmth. I'm laughing at people blaming a commodity. Not an essential to stay alive
