@ericfisher: Amazingly, the U.S. has not seen a Category 2 landfall in almost 6 years. The last was in September of 2008. #Arthur

Andrew made landfall in FL as a Cat 4 with 165 MPH winds, it made landfall in LA as a much weaker (although still significant) storm with winds of 115 MPH.

Looks like Wilmington may get a direct hit..

This guy better start making a sharper turn pretty quick or you may be right.

I just stared at the radar for 5 minutes straight trying to figure out if its gradually turning or making a straight b line and it just seems like they will get either directly hit, or the western eyewall

Arthur may be making one last attempt at strengthening before landfall.
Looks like it will just miss Wilmington but catch the Outer Banks. Shear has remained light but the orientation of the shear to the storm yesterday allowed for additional dry air to get into the core of the system. The shear vector should continue to improve as the system takes on more of a NE track. I think that is part of why we are seeing the burst of intense convection wrap around the center the last couple of hours.
ETA: Latest VDM came in reporting a closed eyewall

Reporting live from Duck, NC. Beautiful weather today on the Outer Banks beaches. Storm should start rolling in tonight. Most of the weather will come through during the night/early morning where we are.

Riding it out? Good luck. NHC is still forecasting additional strengthening and the forecast track passes the center really close to there.

Yeah. Been planning this trip for a few months, we come to the Outer Banks every year for the 4th. My in-laws got down here on Saturday, so they did the obligatory hunker down grocery/booze run for us. My husband and I flew into Norfolk last night and got to Duck around midnight. We were definitely worried they were going to do a mandatory evacuation before we could get here.
We went to the grocery store this morning to pick up a few things and it was not overly crowded. Good number of people on the beach today too. The storm is moving fairly quickly and it looks like Saturday and Sunday are shaping up to be really nice. No Cantore sightings yet
ETA: did my part and stayed out of the water today

Arthur has turned at the very least NE and maybe even ENE

It is a small compact storm and will be accelerating as it moves past. Tomorrow afternoon should even be nice out on the beach. Stay safe until then

It is making a bit more of turn towards the east and there are a couple of towers going up right in the eyewall. Should see the northern outflow start to improve over the next few hours creating a small window for additional strengthening. Looks like the NHC is going to nail this with their call for Cat 2.

Looks like the cold front that is causing trouble all up the NE region of table US has caught up to Arthur.

Track shifted west, looks like the Outer Banks will get a solid hit. NC12 at Oregon Inlet is definitely getting washed out.

Impressive storm...to those in his path - stay safe!

Can someone post a trajectory graph with all the various models?
