re: 2026 Tundra Limited

I agree that the older Tundras are reliable and great. But the failure rates within warranty on the Fords, GMs, and Rams are probably less than 5%, maybe 2%. The access to internet has just really amplified the noise when folks do have a lemon. It might cost $40k+ to get one of those low mile, 2nd gen Tundras. For $50k you can get a new Ford, GM, or Ram, then add an extended warranty to it for a few grand. And even without that, you’ve got ok odds to drive it 10 years, 150k miles no problem. I think the internet has overrated, overstated reliability. The average lifespan for cars has done nothing but go up over time. Seems like covid disrupted that, and the emissions regs, but it’s not to the extent the internet makes it out to be.

Pile of shite are you unaware with the engine recall ?

Thank you for this thread! The responses have saved me from a big mistake. I'm getting a used F-150 instead!

Kind of going through this process now and I am frustrated with my options.
So I’d pass on the Tundra. At least for now.
That engine has some of the highest failure rates in the industry, but they made a change in April 2024 that might have resolved it. So I’d wait another 6 months to make sure that 2025 models weren’t failing before I made decision.
As far as the rest of the truck….since it’s proving to be bottom tier in reliability for a class of vehicles that already had a lot more headaches than they should……it’s now impossible to overlook the strange design decisions that Toyota made on that truck. A lot of the finalization and testing happened during the worst of the pandemic lockdown. That might explain some of it.
You can get a truck with questionable reliability from Ram as well. And at least then you could get a V8 and a nicer looking rig with a much better designed cabin and a much smoother ride.

I’ve been looking for a truck and by all indications they still haven’t gotten the engine bugs worked out. I’d stay away personally.
That seems to be the tea leaves, unfortunately.
This blows my mind as a Toyota owner. I’m used to having an ugly vehicle with weird ergonomics and a crappy infotainment system…..but at least it was reliable and simple under the hood.
I don’t know what they were thinking with the new Tundra.

I have a 24 limited hybrid, and everything I’ve read about the engine issues, there seems to be no problem with the hybrid models
The issues are there too unfortunately so be mindful about that risk.
They aren’t part of the safety recall because technically the hybrid motor can propel the truck a few feet off of the highway when the gas engine fails. NHSTA isn’t forcing their hand with the hybrid models for that reason.
But hybrid models are dropping like flies just like the rest of them.

Not very appealing to me at all but I guess looks are subjective.
I’d be more concerned with the catastrophic engine failures and the amount of these that regularly go on a stop sale because they are traded in before Toyota can ship an engine for the recall.

From what I have heard, the only people that hate these more than the a lot of owners are the dealerships.
And this is why:
The amount of Toyota loyalists that got burned on the new Tundra is impressive.
IMO Toyota should not be allocating new engines to so many new builds when owners of broken vehicles are waiting up to 6-8 weeks for a new engine to be installed. That’s a sketchy move IMO.
Unfortunately it’s also hitting the popular Lexus GX as well. The Lexus LX, which is the only way to get a 300 series Land Cruiser in the US, is also seeing issues.
If not for the unsafe powertrain issue, the Lexus LX would be damn close to perfect for me.

Thank you to those who gave actual input. I think I am going to wait.

What Toyota has done to the body style is so awful. They look terrible now
You got more downvotes than upvotes, but I agree with you.
The older models looked better and more aggressive.

I actually like the new body.
