re: 30A Beach Hate Trend...Is it just sour grapes?

Traffic on 30A can become quite congested. I follow a forum on sowal.com, where there has been discussion about measures to mitigate the congestion, but the consensus seems to be that they should have been undertaken years ago. My go-to is to avoid 30A when trying to get from one beach community to another, and to use Hwy. 98 as a sort of loop.
Destin was the destination of choice for New Orleanians before 30A became a Thing. I visited there prior to our exposure to Seaside, and found it underwhelming. The dunes had been flattened, erasing most of the interesting features of beach topography, the condos and hotels all had a depressing sameness to them, and the restaurant scene then, as now, was designed to feed hordes of families as expeditiously as possible, the quality of the experience be damned.
I have very limited knowledge of PCB. Perhaps someone else can tackle your query?
