A defense lawyer of my acquaintance represented a man who was accused of bestiality. The defendant justified his actions by claiming that the animal in question was on the endangered list. I guess in his mind if it had gone extinct he would have missed out on that opportunity.

Special beads are kept. Everything else gets donated to ArcGNO for recycling and resale. Dropped off a large bag filled with beads, balls and footballs there last week.

My mother used to make Christmas ornaments from the “pearl” necklaces that were so prized at one time. Most were given as gifts, but I still have a few. They are really lovely.

They do a good job there. Plus, it’s well-organized, with the two drive-thru lines, the ability to order ahead, and the convenience of paying with either cash or card. The ladies offering a selection of desserts is a nice bonus, as well.

We do this every year. Looking forward to my combo plate from St. Christopher’s shortly. I enjoy trying plates from different parts of the city, depending on which neighborhood I’m in that day. (Thank you to the archdiocese for sorting the churches by parish this year, rather than just listing them alphabetically.) Some are definitely more seasoned than others, but all give the satisfaction of contributing to a charitable cause.

My mother is a huge fan of peanut butter cups. A couple of years back, I hooked her up with Trader Joe’s versions (milk, dark, and mini.) She switched over from Reese’s, and hasn’t looked back.

I’m going to out-trivia Errol. Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote a short story called “The May-Pole of Merry Mount,” in which Puritans stop the celebrations of a group of revelers described as a “crew of Comus.” I’ve wondered if the original krewe of Comus was influenced by that story when selecting their figurehead.
