Well, Boudinot (and the Ridges) paid the ultimate price for it.
That whole story of removal leading up to the assassinations is incredibly interesting.

Yes, Quattie Ross died on the trail and John lived the rest of his life with guilt over leaving. There’s some correspondence between them that’s been translated that shows she wished for him to remain despite her capture.

I'm giving myself a refresher course in Cherokee history right now. It's amazing how many slaves they owned, and took with them out West.
