The Pokémon craze is already slowing down because scalpers turned it into a business and kids are moving on to other things since they can't get drops.
Were there beanie babies selling for hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars 25 years ago?
Comics and baseball cards had a major crash in the early 90s.
Some collectibles are good investments and others not so much.

Oh, I think it's silly and ripe for a crash The Pokémon craze is already slowing down because scalpers turned it into a business and kids are moving on to other things since they can't get drops. It only really came about when millennials got jobs and money and drove the market. Especially during Covid, when all sorts of retro things took off and eventually settled down, like vintage video games for example.
This is just a small sample of the market. Using a very classic card as an example. This is the two year runway, the all time looks much much better.
It’s not slowing down because some kids can’t get product from Walmart

I was doom scrolling YouTube shorts the other night and came across a livestream of two guys selling and ripping packs/boxes (I get some of that now since I've been watching some people open old junk wax baseball cards). They had a queue that was a couple hours long. I went to their site to check pack prices, and it is unreal what some cost. People kept buying them and they kept opening packs. I kind of became engrossed in it, despite knowing nothing at all about Pokemon.
Also, the Spongebob cards are ridiculous right now, too.
