You made horrible life decisions and now want handouts bc you stopped drinking (which made you poor in the first place) and lost a love one???

You and owlee should buy a tent and go live under the interstate. No one gives 2 fricks about your problems. We all face tough.times. You’re not special. Zero sympathy.
Pick your sober arse up and be somebody.

Before we were married, my ex wife was living in an expensive apartment with a roommate who ended up marrying a billionaire. The roommate wasn't there often because of now husband. My ex was just at the point she was about to get an eviction notice, and used a line such as, "I paid my part of the rent." Sorry, that's not what anyone cares about, and you have to take more responsibility for your circumstances and not outsource them to other people.
They're not at risk of being homeless, you are. You have to put effort in.
I sympathize with OPs situation, but I don't leave shite like that to chance (not that I'd ever rely on a third party to keep me housed and fed, family or not.)

I understand your wife passed and I'm sorry for that but do you not receive her SS benefits as well since she has passed?
