Did you double down on stupid? He’s gotten some solid advice from many that have been through similar events, and insurance agents.
Salmon, let the BR crew know if we can help in any way.

Really hoping he’s doing alright going into the holiday weekend.
That situation can bring on depression, marital stress and other bad situations, all the best to you and yours Salmon.

I had a huge oak limb fall on my shop last week. The broken off end was on the ground and the branches growing off it were sticking past the other side of the roof. It wasn't rotten. There's four feet of green limb still on the tree. It looked like a whole tree. We had to cut it up with a chainsaw to get it off the roof and out of the yard. The crazy thing is I'm not sure which day it fell. We had storms two out of three nights. I had been in and out of it several times but I didn't see it until I saw it from the side of the house it fell from. It didn't look like there was damage or it had leaked. If the big end instead of the branches had fallen on top it I think it would have smashed it in.

Not sure how old your kids are, but you may want to see about them speaking to a counselor. And maybe even parents too. This is traumatic, near death experience.
My family home burned to the ground when I was 9 and my dad sent me back in for the cat.
And he wasn’t paying for a counselor.
