I quit in the 80's

The main thing I did was change the times I smoked

I forced myself to wait 20min everytime I wanted one, and that made all the difference for me.

I also only bought one pack at a time, saved them in a ziplock baggy to keep them fresh longer, eventually it no longer mattered

and haters gonna hate...

I've been telling myself for years I want to quit. Chantix did not help out but rather made me depressed, the e-Cig seemed to have limited uses, and the gum was hit or miss for me. Maybe I should try the patch? Any dietary suggestions?

I know drinking a lot of water helps, and certain foods make cigarettes taste disgusting.

Sounds like you'd rather temporarily substitute something that you can blame for not working. If you really want to quit, stop lifting cigarettes to mouth and lighting them. It's pretty simple.

Just stop being a pussy and quit. You want cigs, so you smoke them. If you want to quit, quit!

If you can't quit cold turkey, reduce how many cigs you smoke each day. Train your mind and body to want it less and less until the desire is gone.

Make the decision and follow through. I'm at over 2 months now and it's really not difficult.

Prepare to smell, sleep, taste and just overall feel better.

Don't stop drinking despite what people tell you. The cravings will always be there but if you learn to accept them as being present and have the ability to control your urges, you'll be just fine. Remember that if you do quit drinking for a period of time while quitting smoking, when you do decide to have that drink, prepare for those intense initial cravings to come roaring back.

Good luck in this brief battle. 2 weeks and you're home free.

Ween but be strict.
1. Take your current # of cigs per day and place in zip lock bag (this is the most important step).
2. Allow yourself that many cigarettes and ONLY that many cigarettes each day for 1 week. Be very strict. Placing the cigarettes in a ziplock bag each morning prevents you from cheating by "guessing" and allows you to see how many you have left near the end of each day so you can make them last.
3. After every 7 days decrease the number you put in the bag each day by one.
4. Continue until done.

Helpful adjunct: While you are doing this, begin another habit such as drinking coffee or chewing gum (something not as chemically addictive or unhealthy) whenever you want a cigarette but are holding out because you're trying to make the number left in the bag last the rest of the day.

Start doing a few lines a day of coke. That'll stop your body from craving the nicotine.

i quit and all i did was walk and jog either every day or every other day. Not far, just a mile to 3 miles. when you start jogging, it occupies your mind and u don't want to mess up ur jog with a cigarette.

I say become a social smoker. A pack lasts me weeks, maybe even months.

My father is 80, blind and incontinent. He smoked two packs a day most of his life. He isn't living, he's existing. If that isn't enough to make you quit I don't know what is.

Quit cold turkey
Adopt a habit preferably fitness - when you do true cardio you will understand. Trying to beat that crap out of your body is rough
Don't give up on working out/fitness even if you relapse. Keep going
Have someone hold you accountable that you respect and see often wife/significant other preferably
Find a want to quit for you. Find a reason health, vanity/appearance, kids etc.
Celebrate small successes and thank those around you that tolerate your anxiety/ridiculous mood swings as you learn to adjust
Take hygiene to another level floss daily if not after every meal, mouth rise, brush 2-3 take pride in your oral care

It is not without hiccups but it is not impossible. You just have to really want it.

When you smoke a cig take a deep 3 deep breaths between every drag. Next day do four seconds, next five, etc. this helps get less nicotine into your system. Next, Think of all the times you have a cig (driving, after coffee, after meals, between class, on work break etc.) an eliminate one per week. Work your way down to 2-3 cigs a day and then just stop. I was at 1.5 packs/day and used thus to stop. The quitting isn't the hard part it is the not picking it back up

Sounds random, but Sunflower Seeds. Just sayin, I smoked for 12yrs and can still dig a good cigar without picking up a carton on the way home.

When you want to smoke a cigarette, don't dmoke a cigarette. You have to convince yourself that it is impossible to smoke one. It's very difficult, but possible if you really want to.

I know three friends who used marijuana as a substitute, and it worked. I don't know if you're interested in that technique.

Good luck to you though.

These are all good. They helped me quite a bit.

I quit cold turkey over a year and half ago. When I wanted a cig I did pushups. Just ten or twenty. Just to get my brain moving somewhere else and get my heartrate up. Always seemed to work.

When I was at work or somewhere where I would look like an idiot dropping and doing twenty, I used hall honey lemon cough drops as a replacement. I don't know why but they work awesome.
