Why fight police when you are being arrested? Dumbassess.
He was not fighting. He was standing with his hands spread out. The cops told him to get on the ground and he stood there with his hands out. So let's not say fighting. Resisting orders is more like it

Tasers were first. Those might have already been drawn. Just a guess though. We will find out at some point. Dash cam and surveillance.

At least he wasn't sitting at home living off food stamps. Wouldn't you rather him sell burnt cd's than live off of your tax dollars?
Yeah I'm sure he's claiming his illegal income on his taxes...he's on some form of government assistance

He definitely started fighting back when they tried to bring him down after not complying.

As a white guy born and raised in BR I think I probably fit in with most of the posters on here. I've spent time in NBR. I can understand how some people could or would think that its unsafe and parts of it are. That being said these police officers patrol these areas all the time. Shoot they probably have seen this guy selling CDs. We need more angels of video to determine if they were right but when I saw the video my first thought was "this is not good" It just seems as though there was no reason to shoot him when they had him down. And why more than 1 or 2 shots? You would think they BRPD would have officers in these higher crime areas that are equipped a little better to handle these situations. I would say I almost always take the side of law enforcement but this does not look good.

Do you folks think the cops just WANT to kill people? Like they have some kind of blood thirst they need to quench and just can't wait to kill a mother fricker? I assure you that they don't. They don't want this publicity they don't want to kill people. But when you think about all they have on the line it makes sense for them to be over cautious. And who can blame them?
Is a dialogue needed nationally on what our expectations are on lethal force? yes. Do we need better surveillance over our law enforcement which is open to the public record? yes.
These are the kinds of conversations we need to be having nationally, not "another black male killed by the PO-LICE". Unfortunately the media will sensationalize everything to get the views and clicks which fund their enterprise, and the morons who cannot see through the veil will continue to lap it up. frick!

And the number one reason not to resist arrest.......drumroll......

No, the eyewitness account story does not have holes in it. Nowhere did he say it was 2 feet away. Watch the interview that I posted of him

They didn't have him subdued. He was taken down on his back and still fighting.
And when you shoot, it's to kill. Empty the magazine until the person stops. Period. No time to think about if it's enough. At that moment you've decided your life is at risk.

Looks like a pretty easy case of justified force on the policemans part to me.

He gave other interviews. And he's still biased.

If the guy has the gun in his pocket and never actually gets it out but is trying to grab it during the struggle. Is that grounds for the officers to shoot him?
It just seems that 2 officers could handle this pretty easily seeing that they had him on the ground. If there was space in between them, say 5 yards, and he goes for the gun then I believe they are free and should shoot. But this close up just seems as thought they should have been able to disarm him
quote:
I see a lot of posters suggesting this is murder. Do you believe a suspect has to have a gun in hand and be pointing it at an officer before the officer can shoot?
I do not see in this short video how these officers felt either majorly threatened or that this guy was a huge threat to the environment around them. They had him down. I do believe if he had a gun out and pointed then yes a shooting is justified. Is this murder? Maybe. I believe its probably more of a huge F up than pure cold murder. As I stated earlier I have friends who are officers and I usually would side with them, but this just doesn't look good. Need more evidence either way

Protect himself from people stealing his illegal bootleg CD money
I'm not suggesting he is some noble character, but the irony still exists. He had it for protection, but if he didn't have it on him he likely gets arrested without incident.

You know what would really be tragic is if there really was an anonymous tipster that called in annoyed at seeing the same guy at that store selling CD's & embellished the story about him waving a gun, knowing the police likely wouldn't respond without embellishing it.
If the tipster lied about the waving the gun around part, some of the blood is on their hands bearing false witness. I'm trying to imagine a guy that is a regular at that store selling CD's everyday that could have been legit his friends' mixtapes, & waving a gun for no reason would be bad for business.
Posted on 7/5/16 at 9:44 pm to JMFG
So your criteria is gun out and pointed? Damn. Lots of cops would be dead if they had to wait for those two things to happen before they acted.
Posted on 7/5/16 at 9:44 pm to vuvuzela
You guys do know that's it's possible for the cop to handle this wrong and to not be racist at the same time right?
If you're trying to handcuff someone why do you pull a gun out? Seems to me it'd be easier to disable and cuff someone if you use two hands.
