I’m guessing there is more to the story than the guy fell off the side of the boat. How does the captain get charged with vehicular manslaughter for that? He can’t control what his friend is doing the entire time he is trying to drive. Regardless of wether he is drunk or not.
Boat captain shouldn't be operating the boat while a passenger is outside of the gate on the front of the pontoon

Probably a better law enforcement presence on FR. I see LAWF out there most weekends.
There Diversion/Blind River/ Lake Maurepas/ Lake Ponchatrain area has coast guard patrols, multiple sheriff boats from multiple jurisdictions, plus many LDWF boats. They are everywhere, yet they still can't stop stupidity.

Per tournament rules, I can be disqualified if the motor is running and I don't have a lifejacket on or the kill switch attached. Needless to say, but alcohol during tournament hours is also a disqualification.
I guess this is why I've really never felt the need to drink because I fish tournaments so it is a habit not to have beer in my boat.

Anyone dumb enough to be driving a boat with passengers riding on the bow has no business behind the wheel
Amazing how many boaters don’t take the required boater safety course

The presence is there, lax prosecution
All they really have to do is sit and the landings and watch people approach.
I know a guy that’s has gotten 4 boating duis dropped

I thought I heard on the radio, that an OWI in a boat affects you La. Drivers License

It does. Treated the same.

People that HAVE to have beer while boating are like the people that HAVE to have road beers when they leave work.

Pretty much the definition of an alcohol problem if you can't enjoy an activity without drinking, and I doubt it's "a beer or two"
You don't need to be drinking operating a boat.
