The only time I was in El Paso I was held at gunpoint in broad daylight. They took everything and told me that if I went to the police they would find and kill me.

My wife has family there. We've spent many days there. Weekends. Holidays.
That part of the family LOVES El Paso and is a big cheerleader for the city.
They city is boring. And rundown. Its just kind of shitty. I've had a lot of fun at Pershing Inn, for instance, and we've done a lot of stuff there. But there just isn't a strong culinary presence outside of Mexican, and there isn't a whole lot to do.

It isn't all that safe from what I hear.
My uncle who works for the DEA got transferred down there for work. One of their informants was supposed to arrange a meeting with the cartel but instead, the informants head showed on on a tortoise's back. While his group was investigating the tortoise/head blew up, severely injuring some of his coworkers. Luckily he was grabbing an evidence bag and didn't get injured. Really shook him up though.
