Yeah I saw that craigslist thing earlier. Funny shite.

I like the picture also of 12 people inside Parley's drinking beer sitting on bar stools as the place is flooded.

they blocked the drainage off in the FQ for the Bourbon street repair and now all the water is just collecting down in midcity??

Agreed. The Bourbon St drainage / construction effected the Quarter not Mid City.

Channel 8 is showing some cars still scattered in the road that were flooded out.

There's a Lexus up on cinder blocks because animals stole all the wheels off of it. The news anchor even pointed it out.

What a shite hole.

Serious question.. I'm looking to buy a home in NOLA soon, most likely Lakeview.. is it 'avoid at all costs'? And if so, and if you needed to stay within the city limits of New Orleans, not Mandeville, not Metairie, not anywhere outside of the City-- where would you buy.. Uptown is a little rich for my (non-blue) blood, plus the random crime.. not looking for clowns to comment with their anti-NOLA opinions, just would you avoid Lakeview if trying to buy a nice home in NOLA, and if so, then where would you buy??

Lakeview still has some very nice areas. The biggest problem with Lakeview is the streets are the worst in the city. They're awful.

Is there any reason you wouldn't do Old Metairie?

I saw that, but the idiot played it off like he didn't know why the wheels were missing...

Funny shite... The pickers were out last night...

I'd have to disagree.. to me , the biggest problem are the flood waters seemingly every month lately.. and the potential for catastrophic flooding every so often.. as far as the roads, i guess ive just gotten used to them being the worst in the City all my life, it doesnt really bother me anymore.. but the flooding now seems more frequent, and relentless.

That is not accurate as far as the flooding. This event was very rare. Harrison ave had not flooded since Katrina, into buildings. If I was doing a risk assessment that would not be in the top3. Crime and streets would be.

Car break-ins, few car jackings, few armed robberies at business's. That said it's a great area, family oriented, walkable, numerous schools.

Quite a few areas in Lakeview hire private security to patrol btw. Civic association is very active, LCIA.

need a bit more info. Your age, married, kids and age?

ETA: depending of you have a family and all (although it wouldn't make a difference with me) but I think the neighborhoods you can find some awesome character and the best deals (relative) for the most part: Channel, St Roch, 7th ward, FairGrounds, Leonidas, Fountainbleau... and even certain areas of Central city, and Broadmoor hood between La Prkwy and Napoleon on the lake side just north of the Milan hood, you can still find a couple gems and that area has been up and coming steady for about 7 years or so but you don't hear about the 'gentrification' as much..

I personally wouldn't live in LV, might as well live in Jefferson Parish.... I would look at Fake View before moving up there around the north end of the park

This city is cursed...the ghosts of slaves bought & sold here still cause havoc among the inhabitants. Get out while you can!

This.
OP, just look on a map and follow Robert E Lee Blvd out almost to UNO. The areas on either side are generally great. The lake side of that area Lakeshore-Lake Vista I think missed the Katrina flooding for the most part.

As SS pointed out, there are a lot of other areas that will be much more affordable, but come with a little more risk.

As for the Jefferson Parish suggestion, the good area of Metairie is from Causeway over to the 17th street canal, but it's not cheap by any means. And that goes for River Ridge as well.

Seems to be priced similarly to Uptown from what I've seen.

bro you don't want to live in lake view

Move to a place with more character, where you have neighborhood corner stores and bars and cool restaurants so close it isn't even woth having to pull out your bike to get to them...

Look into fairgrounds, bayou St. John, or north side of 7th ward, even parts of st roch possibly, irish Channel, Milan, Leonidas.... those are going to be the 'best bang for your buck' although Nola is just expensive

Seriously I'm pretty familiar with the city as a whole and know almost every neighborhood pretty intimate, but have never purchased a house. But if you have any questions I don't mind giving some insite

SuperSaint, i see where youre coming from in your last couple posts.. and i get it, I'm born and raised in Greater NOLA.. but I'm averse to the sketchiness in most of the areas you listed.. i also get that Lakeview has the reputation of being the 'suburbs in the City', but i dont mind.. I'm not 25, i dont need constant excitement.. if i want occasional excitement, I'll take a 10 min Uber ride into the City... my only real concern about LV is the flooding, spending decent $$ to buy property in the lowest part of the NOLA bowl, if i could get over that hump then I'm good.
