Used to live at Two Sisters pool hall in Slidell when I was younger. Lost my cues in Katrina and have only played a couple times since. Would love to get a table set up in my house and get back into it

Once played it a lot, about 3-4 times a week at local pool halls or bars. I preferred pool halls with full size tables, but could shoot a good game on those smaller bar tables.
Had 2 nice cues too. One a Joss and the other was a Meucci, both 19 oz. sticks that I lost when I forgot they were in my pickup when Katrina hit and my truck got flooded.
When I got back home and found them in the truck I was sick to my stomach and both cues were ruined.
Then about that time my eyes started to go wonky and I needed glasses because of an astigmatism in one eye, then in a few years it was bifocals time.
Ever try playing pool with bifocals???? Very hard to do and I just gave it up and miss it a lot. Even tried contacts to no avail.
Just couldn't focus enough for those long cut shots anymore.
Games of choice were 9 ball played under the newer rules and 8 ball, but preferred 9 ball by a fair amount.
Never really got into the whole "Pool League" thing even though I was a sub on teams over the years. Too damn much sandbagging in that league for my taste.

Grits when Nolan owned it.. Not sure if they still have the six full size tables or not.
Grits still has a few tables but it is mainly a darts bar now with several boards hanging on the walls of the place. I know the owner very well and he did keep a few of the old tables in the place, but they don't see much action as far as I've witnessed.
The corner pisser in the back, right hand corner of the place is still there. I've seen outhouses with more room in them to be fair.

Yeah, sandbagging is a huge issue. I do my best to keep everyone honest, but you just have to realize that it's always going to be there and just enjoy yourself. I never understood sandbagging.

Pool is trashy.

You and me both. I've always played to win, and to do so in as few shots as possible.
When I first subbed in a local pool league I was surprised at how many "innings" some players were taking to finish games since they were players that I knew could easily finish 8 ball racks in 2-3 visits at the table-------or less.
These very same players were purposely missing easy shots, but blocking pockets with their misses or leaving their opponent snookered. That took any desire from me to actually join the pool league.

grew up with a table. my dad was passionate about it.
in the 80s at LSU the Bayou used to take the ball drawer off the coin tables in the afternoons for free pool. did a little pathetic hustling with a buddy of mine for drinks.
CSB one time we decided to take a little drive out into the boonies..cajun land..i don't even know where we were but we were smug and full ourselves so we stopped at a little bar in the middle of NOWHERE and decided to hustle the locals.
ooooh, bad bad mistake. like someone said above, if you don't know the rules you gonna get screwed. in this case the SCARY coonasses said "no slop" which we took to mean you have to call your shots right?
NOPE
it meant the ball couldn't touch either side of the pocket..you had to sink the balls without it touching anything.
we were so screwed. we couldn't cover the bets and neither of us were remotely good enough to sink shots that way.
my friend told me quietly to go out to the car for something and a few minutes later he excused himself to the bathroom and climbed out of the window.
we took off so fast and didnt stop until we got to biloxi and we ended up just passing out on the beach.
good times. glad i lived to tell the CSB

So where can you shoot pool in Baton Rouge these days?
Posted on 9/16/21 at 8:43 am to A Menace to Sobriety
Yes, probably 6 nights a week. Played a little ACS and a house league. I know Johnny Archer, a former world champion. He pops into the pool hall that my friends and I play in occasionally.

When I was in my mid 30's. We were all at my sisters house, and they had a nice slate table. I had never once seen my dad play pool, and he commenced to wreck shop game after game. I am sure he had not touched a table in at least 20 or more years. Now I know what he did with all his spare time in his youth before he went into the service and retired. I was truly awestruck.

Marking defenses on those players is all you can do to combat sandbagging. Unfortunately, even if you do it properly, most teams won't be marking them on those players so it is never really enough.

reminds me of a time i was playing a douche who was dating a friend of my wife's. Total dick. he wanted to shoot pool and was acting like hot shite and drunk.
instead of just beating him (where's the fun in that?) i just kept missing shot after shot until he only had 1 ball left and the 8 ball and then i proceeded to frick with his shots for the next 30 minutes.
i got a little too much pleasure out of seeing smoke come out of his ears when he couldn't 'finish the job' while acting like i had no idea what was going on. he was clueless why he was having such bad luck against a terrible opponent.
ended up having to leave the bar with the game unfinished.

My old friend was dating a complete douchebag. Roided out and just awful. First time we ever met him (and only time), they met us at Puncher's downtown when that was still a thing. He asked Jones to play pool and was like, "Do you know how to play? Need the rules?"
He let Jones break since he assumed he had no idea what he was doing, and he proceeded to hit every ball in one by one without the dude even getting a turn
I was laughing so hard at how angry the dude was. My girlfriend knew he was a douchebag and thanked us for doing that to him. LOL.
