Not trying to be "that person," but I'm willing to bet I know more about this subject (kitchen knives) than maybe anyone on this board - and certainly on this thread.
It's a big hobby of mine - looking to get into making/selling custom knives on the side. I have to get better at sharpening though (long process - I'm not quite there yet).

It's weird to have a hobby? FWIW my "knife hobby" is really just an extension of my cooking hobby. Would love to get into making chopping blocks at some point as well. I also like to restore cast iron.
I'm trying to be helpful and will/can talk about knives/sharpening all day if anyone's interested.

Are you on disability or something?

The knives are good but it's not like people have trouble finding steak knives at the store. Dumb idea for making money.

I'm at work just like everyone else...

I've used Cutco hunting and fish filet knives since being introduced to them about 15 years ago by a guide in Alaska. Just sent my deer knife in to be sharpened for the first time this past summer, it had one serration broken off from going through some bone a few years back so they replaced the knife for me.

I have an entire chef set and 2 skinning knives, best knives I ever owned

Anybody know how to sharpen the serrated edge knives? I have 2 that were great knives, but dull now. Not sure how to sharpen and don't want to ruin. TIA.

Bring it to a person with the right equipment to do it, you have to sharpen each trough

Gotcha, thanks.
I'm guessing a google search will lead me to people that do this? I had no idea you could take knives somewhere to be sharpened.

Have the 10 inch chef knife. It's bad azz! Super Sharp.

Serrated knives (with teeth) are a mark of low quality and will only get worse with time. That said, you can sharpen them, but it will never be as sharp as it first was. Scalloped knives are a different story, and that's what you should look for if you ever want a really good serrated knife (like a bread knife).
For my bread knifes I generally just buy some cheap serrated one and toss it when it starts to go dull.
Regardless, when you bring your knife to get sharpened make sure they either use stones or a belt sander. The electric stuff "sharpens" your knife by removing the metal and creating a new edge. This is unnecessary at best and harmful at worst - the angle becomes more extreme the more times you do it (because the width of the blade increases the more you eat your way up).

My parents have had a set of cutco for 20 years. Just bought the table knife set last week and arranged a home sharpening. Great knives, great service...not a great sales job.

I have 8 steak knives and various other chef's knives, paring and filet knives. I don't know how many I have, but I have a number of them and I've had them for years. I also have the scissors. They're great knives. I've never had to replace or even sharpen them. They will sharpen them at no cost and replace at no cost.
A friend of mine lost a full set of steak knives and the large block full of probably 10 knives, in Katrina. She called Cutco to order all of them again and they sent everything to her free.

That's true, but cutco is not your traditional serrated knife. It has a patented edge that protects the blade itself from dulling.

No offense, but if you see anything resembling this line then it means the seller is selling you snake oil. Unless they've managed to defy the laws of physics without telling anyone, this is just impossible.
All knives dull. All knives need to be sharpened.

They need to be sharpened, but only about once every 10 years on average. Look it up, it's called the double D edge. Different than normal serrated knives.
