Attendance policies are kind of dumb but bro, you, or someone is paying for the classes...might as well go.

Swing and a miss. Being where you're supposed to be when you're supposed to be is part of being an adult.

It's possible to get a grade changed. I did once when I was able to show the instructor had miscalculated something. I appealed directly to him though and he admitted the error.
But if attendance policy was stated at the start of class and you violated it, your chances are probably slim to none. Doesn't matter how well you did otherwise.

It shows that you have no respect for the teacher or the class if you don't show up.
If he was able to get an A grade without showing up it doesn't sound like the class or the professor really deserve a ton of respect.

It's not special treatment. I don't disagree with the policy because it applies to me, I disagree with the policy because it's ridiculous.
The class has a policy. You knew about this policy. You chose not to adhere to this policy. Now you think that the policy should not apply to you because you don't agree with it.
You're going to be really disappointed when you actually get out in the real world.

theyd probably be more likely to change it if you went to class regularly but had bad grades on your papers
good news is that nobody is ever going to ask you what you got in english your freshman or sophomore year of college. all you gotta do it speak like you are educated and youll be just fine
going to classes like that blows, so i just used to sit in the back and play mario kart on my laptop with a snes emulator

Unless you discussed with your professor the potential for you to have to miss classes due to work, medical requirements, etc. at the beginning of the semester then you're screwed.
Going to class is not hard. It's actually one of the easier aspects of college, and college is generally a breeze if you give a shite.

I have a nightmare like this every few months that it was the last semester before graduation and I am going into a final that I had never been to the class.

Do you work full time?
Posted on 5/9/18 at 8:09 am to fightingtigers98
If you can’t even show up to English class how can I trust you to show up to work?
Posted on 5/9/18 at 8:09 am to fightingtigers98
while I think that the policy is ridiculous you should have known better if it was on the syllabus. take your lick and learn from it. part of the point of college is to prepare you for a job. you can't accept a job that requires you to be at the office and then never show up.

Agreed. This should’ve been brought up at beginning of semester not after you decided not to attend class

quote:Participation is factored into your overall grade, so if you don't show up you're already being docked points. Then to top it off they deduct half a letter grade for every absence that is unexcused.
So why do you have an F is your grade was brought down to a C+?
So if you don't show, you're not only having points deducted from your participation but also your final grade.

Seriously, English?

Give head to your counselor for a retroactive drop

had an A in the class until participation was factored in which then brought my grade down to C+
So you have a C+?

now have an F on my transcript because of this attendance policy.
How did you go from C+ to F?
Are you saying the teacher grades the majority of eveyone in the class just based on attendance and the actual work and grades you do don't matter? Go get that teacher fired.
