I build them, my three nephews destroy them.

One nephew is finally catching on that I won’t give him another one until he destroys the one he has.

He keeps my cases roomy. I’m grateful for that.

My kids are older so no worries on that front. In fact my wife and kids know I’m so particular about my models that when we pulled up the carpet upstairs to put down hardwoods they would not help me move my models because they were afraid they’d break one.

When my son was little though I’d buy him models. He has sorta picked up the hobby. He’s got a Lindbergh T-55 on his desk that he started a few months ago. But he’s 19 with the social life of a typical 19 yr old so he doesn’t work on it very much.

Yeah! Post it when you’re done.

Silver/Aluminum has always been a Liam in the arse for me.

Tamiya landing gear are so detailed.

They even included the pistons for the landing flaps on my P51!

Crazy detail that aligns with the super fine details inside the landing gear pit.

Gotta love it.

I typically go crazy with photo-etch metal parts. The parts count on my Trumpeter 1/350 F-14A Tomcats approached 40, with the ordinance being white metal from GHQ (sidewinders/sparrows, and scratchbuilt Phoenixes). This included fully-opened cockpits, ejection seats, hard points, gear and gear doors, flaps, etc.

Tamiya is probably my favorite brand on models, especially their armor kits. This week I stopped in my local hobby shop and picked up a Tamiya 1/35 scale mid-production Tiger I. Before I start it I’ve got to buy me a Zimmerit tool though so I can apply the Zimmerit coating on the armor.

Excellent work! I’ve only done a handful of ships. I’m thinking of going by Hobby Lobby and picking up the USS Arizona they keep in stock. I built that kit probably close to 20 years ago and would like to do it again.

Thank you! After 600+ hours of work on it, it’s probably the last one I’ll ever do. The entire air wing is detailed like that, including the ones on the hangar deck (which was scratchbuilt and lit with LEDs).

That Arizona is an absolutel beast of a model. I have a lot of room in my bonus room, but even it makes my Nimitz look small.

I’m working on another Gundam at the moment. It’s relaxing after building super-detailed stuff for so long.

I’d like to find a good model of either the Bismarck or Tripitz.

I haven’t visited modelwarships.com in a while since I finished my project. I’m only familiar with the Tamiya versions, did Trumpy come out with those?

I think Trumpeter does have one or the other. Before I buy either though I’ll have to secure some more shelf room though.

ETA. They do make a 1/200 scale Bismarck

I have a 1/72 Helldiver (Academy) that when I opened the kit, I was shocked to see that it came with etched brake flaps for both wings. Giant etch plate. Crazy.

I just boxed it back up for later because I don’t have the skills for photo etch yet.

Photo etch parts can be a pain in the arse. Just make sure you use a tiny drop of super glue and regular model glue like Tamiya Super Thin won’t hold them.

Seriously. Good straight edge razor blades and pointy tweezers are your best friend. I don’t have a PE folder, so I use the poor man’s method.

That’s great!!

My kids love to build things - and they eye the models when I torture them with trips to hobby lobby or Michaels. We haven’t gone down that road yet ... we have enough Lego creations right now.

I went to Hobby Towne in BR before Christmas for the first time. That place has some great stuff! Luckily we don’t have room. Lol
