Thx! When i got home from the hobby shop I initially sat at the table looking at the hundreds of tiny parts and tools i bought like “i might have made a $200 mistake”. The painting is what’s crazy

Some of the armor kits I build have individual track shoes that have to be glued end to end. That can turn into an ordeal.

Crazy that they are included in this kit.

I remember how awesome it was when Monogram had the “ProModeler” series in the 90’s with photo-etched parts. I think the Do-335 was one of the first I had built with them.

I’ve never seen etched parts included in a 1/72 kit.

Astonishing that they’d fool with such small details.

Then I saw a dude on YouTube build the model.

Gonna paint my brakes red now.

Exactly what I did!

Saw the photo etch and put that bitch right back up.

I don’t blame you. There’s really no need for those parts to be photo etched. Really other than some cockpit parts like seatbelts and consoles I don’t see the point in photo etched parts.

I think their point is to add another dimension with the etched parts but damn I’m already wearing a microscope and painting with two hands.

How smaller can it get?

Also, funny how all the pros really love seatbelts.

I guess I’ll have to start making my own eventually.

The one in the P51 I have looks silly compared to all the weathering. It’s clean though and I like the contrast between stock and my work.

Yeah. I’m not close a pro so I don’t worry about them.

I want to be better than everyone at everything so it kinda pisses me off how good they are at cutting seatbeats out of Tamiya masking tape.

But that’s a subculture in itself.

I’m already in too deep.

EDIT:

What about this Shreveport contest soon?

Best. Stuff. Ever.

Now, building the belts on my 1/12 FW14B was a pain, but totally worth it. And at that scale, wasn’t too bad on the eyes (started wearing readers two years ago).

Yeah the tape is perfect.

And now you have to get every width.

Those guys are smart marketers.

EDIT:

shite, if you and Darth were in Louisiana, I’d drink a beer or ten with y’all.

not gonna lie, i've come across 1 or 2 microscopic parts on this jet that have been deemed "optional"

Just finished this one up earlier this afternoon. It’s an Arado Ar 196 A-3. This was the primary reconnaissance aircraft of the Kreigsmarine during WWII, operating primarily on capital surface ships like the Bismarck, Prince Eugen, etc. The particular example I chose to build served with 1/BordfliegerGr. 196 aboard the battleship Tripitz.

Damn good job, Darth! How did you paint it - airbrush or brush?
