You just described about 90% of the tech industry. Might as well go back to chalking up caves if that's the angle we're taking.
What? No. Much of the tech industry is owned by S Korea & Japan. I didn't say to avoid TCL for being manufactured in. china, but being owned by China. I even gave an example of an American-owned TV manufacturer.
They'll still source parts and labor in China, but it's difficult to do anything about that as a consumer.

Sorry, that's really my point here. Most countries design their products, but production ends up somewhere like China. That's just business today.

Bought my Samsung in 2009, still has a great picture.

True, but a company being owned in China means that the company is owned by the Chinese government basically. It's a key difference in my opinion. If there was a company that was able to source parts and everything with trusted partners not in China, or preferably even in the USA, that would be great. Unfortunately in today's market that just can't compete in price. That's why American companies that manufacture in the US like Klipsch are so expensive and are niche products. That's about the only way American manufacturing can actually keep up with price.

TVs are becoming very disposable.
This.
I bought a Panasonic 42” plasma in 2005. Still works perfectly, but it doesn’t have HDMI ports. Pretty useless nowadays. I just bought a JVC 58” Roku smart TV with a bunch of letters and numbers behind that for $298 on cyber Monday. Been great so far. I have a 32” TCL on my back patio. Very pleased with it. Still have a 32” Sony in my son’s room. It works, but has the worst picture of them all.

I hear what you're saying and point taken. That TCL TV works good, doe.

I had one of the last Panasonic plasmas made that we bought in December of 2010. Some jackwagon stole it during a burglary at our previous home the week of Black Friday in 2017. It worked great, but joke was on him. Wasn't worth crap and paid for my new one.

Huge numbers of TV’s and most other technology based merchandise is made in China and the CCP probably is involved in most companies there, if buying made in China is an issue and with today’s political climate, it’s understandable that it would be, then LG, Panasonic, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba are options that are made in Japan and Korea.
We have 9 TV’s at this time including Samsung, Sony, LG and most recently bought a 65” Hisense ROKU which is now the most viewed and most used TV we have, it’s crystal clear, 4K, high resolution, fast refresh, good sound and cost less than $450, I’ll probably never spend over $500 on any TV again unless something happens to drive prices up a lot.

The television market is wild man—TVs are one of the most misunderstood products out there.
You got your guys all “I got an 80 inch TCL for $500 and the picture is BEAUTIFUL, y’all are idiots for paying more than that.” Like that’s cool and all, but you and I have different needs when it comes to a TV, as you more than likely only watch “HD” programming from your antenna or some shite.
Then you got your guys all “I bought a 3D virtual reality smart 8K 240hz curved OLED for $10k” Bro, come on.

Haha I would say somewhere in between but I’d be lying. Actually just got a LG CX model OLED in yesterday. $1500 for a 48”

I mean me, I probably wouldn't spend that these days as it's just not that easy to tell the difference any longer unless you have multiple TVs set up together. But I get it. Back in 2004, I dropped about $3,500 on a 55" Sony WEGA DLP......
I was an idiot.

Have had a Sony Bravio 55" for several years now. No problems at all. Great picture.

If you’ve got the media sources to push the TV to its capabilities, then go for it. Problem is, 90% of people don’t and end up paying for too much TV.
PS5 with 4K blu-ray and 2.1 hdmi will push just about any TV to max.

I used to be a big Sony guy but I've shied away from Sony products since they wouldn't stand behind a DVD player and a Playstation 3 I purchased years ago. Both had known quality issues, which were heavily reported on A/V message boards at the time yet Sony wouldn't acknowledge them.
Sony had great RDATS, Betamaxes and Trinitron. I have an old D8 (digital 8mm) Sony I bought back in 98 and it was great at the time.
I've never really cared for Pioneer stuff except for their TV's and LD players. I didn't like their CD changers that used the magazines because they had a tendency to scratch discs.

Not a Sony but our current Vizio has been a far better TV than the Samsung it replaced.
Vizio is supposed to be a cheap brand but I've never had a problem with one. It wouldn't be my living room TV but they're great for bedrooms.

Everyone else seems to make about 5 tiers of TV..from super budget to super premium.
Sony seems to only sell a premium line.
Sony may be the safest purchase in electronics across the board.
Having said that--I bought a mid-range LG. Because I wasn't interested in spending Sony prices.

They really went out of their way to take care of me about 15 years back and I have never forgotten it.
Their service of 15 years ago is gone.
Good luck getting your PSN account back if somebody hacks it and when I called about my TV not having picture in picture even though it was advertised on the box they said my user agreement stated they weren't obligated to have every feature promised on date of purchase. Like I said earlier, it took them 2 years to roll out an update that enabled it.
