Damn so I basically got conned into spending $70 on an air filter for no reason? That sucks

Most modern-ish cars the air filter isn't holding it back till you are doubling or more the HP. Even then I bet you run out of fuel injector capacity before the stock air box is the constrictor.

Unfortunately yes. They let a lot of silicate in which can hurt your engine over time. People with K&N also end up not cleaning their filter near as often as they should which exacerbates the problem.

If you have a new(ish) vehicle that you put the filter on, the silicate probably isn’t a big deal until many years down the road. Just make sure that you clean the filter regularly.

However, buying for performance gains, yeah. That’s a total waste.

Says every 30k miles. More often?

You just have misunderstood what I was saying. Do not waste your money on this either. Your computer will adjust for the “increased” airflow within seconds to bring it back to the same baseline as it was without the spacer.

Yeah, but filters get more efficient the longer you use them.

Which is exactly the problem.

*SIGH*

I design and test engines for a living. K&N air filters are total fricking junk.

You got fleeced for $70. If it really did actually make a difference, your existing filter was plugged to shite and a new OEM filter would have netted you the same performance gain without the nasty abrasive bypass into your engine.

I'm telling you I might hit up the auto zone to get the paper OEM filter equivalent if yall recommend it sincerely and eat the $70 loss

I would. K&N is a wet filter and wet filters only work when they are clean and wet. Sopping wet.

Any vehicle made after about 1992 has a mass air flow sensor and is fueling based on its air flow and will trip a check engine light for low air flow.

A regular paper air filter on a highway use car will last damned near forever.

I mean, a typical cat weighs what, 8-12 lbs?

Less weight= more power.

Plus, no furr on the seats...

It’s 2025 not 1930’s with dirt roads. With all the new clean air standards I don’t even run an air filter anymore. First thing I do when I buy a new truck is remove the air filter and let that thing breathe.

idk if this advisable but I do live in a concrete jungle total urban sprawl no dirt roads within 30 miles of me unless private drives.

Need additional input. Would try

As others have said you will get high Silicon (dirt) readings in oil analysis using a K&N.

I'm not saying that will ruin your engine but it doesn't make much sense to use one for no perceptible gain in efficiency or performance.

I would just get the OEM paper filter and I change it every 20k miles.

Oil fouling sensors is also a real thing with oiled filters like K&N.
