re: Avoided a massive round of layoffs today

I’m very familiar with the institution known as Harlow’s. I’ve taken my kids there when we are in town visiting my family.
They say Little Rock is dangerous but if you stay in certain areas of town, you wouldn’t know it. Little Rock doesn’t have the random violent crime that infiltrates BR/NOLA. It’s Mayberry compared to memphis/Nola/BR.

Trying to hire some contract folks in plant for over 20 per hour and most can't pass drug test

I spent a decent amount of time up there about 6-7 years ago. Helping out UAMS to prepare for a major renovation. It was pretty nice up there back then.

I spend a lot of time at UAMS. West Little Rock is very nice and I like it a lot. I miss back home because the people are different, the food, but I enjoy lack of traffic, crime and the seasons are beautiful.

I am always amazed at how people feel large companies are safer places to work than small ones and how working for the other guy is considered safer than working for yourself.

Yep. Roustabout starts at about 60k a year. Full benefits and half the year off!
Just saying.
It's not easy finding people who can pass a drug screen these days.

After WFH for two plus years it’s looking like I’ll have to pull out the steel toes and FRCs and head back to the field

Going on a lovely tour of Midland?
I know how it feels. I was for sure rusty on that first one.

Glad you're okay from this round but worth it to start looking around now. Suggested this to some of my colleagues that were shocked I got laid off a month ago. I've been skiing a few times, figured out an escape plan from WA, and am currently in Florida sitting by the beach/pool all week. Blessing in disguise, realized I was just a number to my previous company

From my experience, these things usually happen on Thursday mornings. And calendar invites to certain people with HR invited—titled “organizational update” or “project future”. One thing I’ve learned is no matter how valuable, how well you’re doing, how we are a “work family”…. You’re just a number and they’ll happily chop your head off without blinking an eye
My exact story in December... I brought 44million in sales to this "family" company... Still got the ax with my whole division... Nobody cares, and nobody is not dispensable.

Dude, you’d have been out the door long ago if you’d have been offered the right opportunity. While I understand your point, given the context, the company’s loyalty is no different than yours. You both have to do what’s best for you.

Do HR people ever get laid off?
I think they should go first

Actually it’s looking like mostly Haynesville work. CHK giving it another go apparently.
It’s like I’m 23 again

I understand the sentiment when you're going through it, but it's pretty rare that layoffs include the best and most valuable employees, at least not at first. And it's certainly not an optimal position for the company if they are having to let go of high performers, so I doubt there is a lot of happiness involved in it on either side.
If you work for an employer that gives off the vibe that they'd lay you off out of spite and take joy in it, I wouldn't recommend sticking around.
