Jerry Lawler because he could work the mic as a heel or a baby face and be the best in the promotion at it. Dusty Rhodes probably cut a better baby face promo then anyone. Flair and Hogan both could talk a lot of people into the seats.

The Rock is a nice guy, met him when he was coming up in Memphis, but he lacks the ability to shift on the fly. Great delivery, his father was an under rated promo guy, and he learned from some of the best in the business.

Savage also had a great delivery but he couldn't hit the range of emotions that a Flair, Rhodes, or Lawler could hit.

Ernie Ladd was money on the mic as a heel, he just had that knack of being a complete arse hole. Cena is solid but his best work is as a heel I think and he hasn't played that in more then a decade.

Dutch Mantell/Zeb Colter is a really solid promo guy. Actually since Memphis put a real emphasis on guys that could cut a promo you had a ton of Memphis talent up there.

Those that could not, Bobby Eaton for example, were paired with someone like Jimmy Hart or Jim Cornette.

I don't think anyone mentioned Shawn Michaels. Maybe not the all time best but he has to be up there.

Not nearly enough love for Dusty Rhodes in this; the man had one wrestling skill, and it was that god-awful North Car'lina/Backwoods Florida/Godknowshwere Texas lisping promo shoot that made him the school of hard knocks redneck every man in America knew.

If you can identify entire shoots by a guy, just by saying 2 or 3 words, 30 years after he does them, that guy is a microphone legend. Hard times. Dined with Kings and Queens. The view never changes.

There have been some other greats overlooked a little; I was always partial to Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jericho as the underrated talkers of their generation.

I liked the New Age Outlaws on the mic even though their career/fame wasn't as long as some of the legends mentioned on here.

Did you ever watch Jake Roberts? The guy was a master in psychology and his promos were amazing. His promo after Tuesday in Texas where he talks about slapping Miss Elizabeth is as diabolical as it gets.

The best thing about Jake was he never had to yell or scream to get his point across. He could whisper and it sounded just as intense as anyone else turning red.

You mean Road Dogg. Billy Gunn was always terrible on the mic.

I still remember when Jericho debuted in WWE was when Rock was in the ring. The was the first time he used the "It doesn't matter what your name is" line. I remember losing it when he said it

Y2J WWE DEBUT

Edited because I don't proofread

Dude what - I mean, you're right and all, but I have NEVER (never) witnessed a larger pop in pro wrestling than that crowd in your youtube realizing Jericho is now WWE.

I think it is The Rock, but any list that does not include Flair is just invalid.
