Also it’s a plain looking shotgun with a brown stock. If I ever tagged anyone with it I’m a dude with a shotgun if I got called in front of a jury. Nobody is looking at it saying wow this guy was really looking to kill someone. I’ve been told by friends who are WAY more into guns than myself that you don’t want to have some crazy customized, tactical looking thing as your primary personal defense weapon as you never know How a jury is going to view it.
I see your point, but unless you do something completely retarded, like blast someone in the back at the end of your driveway while he's fleeing your house, then your case is never going to get near a jury. If you shoot him inside your home and say "he broke into my home at 3 a.m. and I reasonably feared for my life and the lives of my family members" . . . then no charges are ever going to be pressed on you. This is all assuming that you live somewhere with decent self-defense laws, like the American South.

If you are looking for a self defense platform that anyone (young, old, male, female, non-binary, etc) can pick up and be effective with with minimal experience then a shotgun is WAY down towards the bottom of the list.
#1 Pistol caliber carbine
#2 Rifle caliber carbine (AR fits in this category)
Give my 11yo son one of those two and he can effectively and repeatedly hit a human sized silhouette from 10-50 yards. Pistol he will struggle to hit at more than 50% past 10 yards and that's with taking his time and aiming. Rapid fire is just spray and prey with a pistol. Shouldered with 3 points of contact the carbine is way more accurate, effective, and much faster to deliver follow up shots than a shotgun of any time (pump or semi auto) or pistol. Sure the first shot off is great with a shotgun but follow up shots are where you really suffer with a shotgun.

A loaded one that you have practiced with enough to be able to hit what you are shooting at accurately when under stress. Having a gun that you can't hit shite with will only get you killed. If it is for home defense get a light for it. Learn to shoot with that too. Everyone thinks it's good enough to have a gun for protection, but you are rarely going to be attacked/broken in on under ideal conditions that most people practice at the range. If you ever have to shoot in a dark, enclosed building (your house at night during a break-in) you learn quickly that the noise and flash from the gun can throw you off target and disorient you quickly.

This is important.

Many people say 12 gauge shotgun. Criminals today rarely travel alone. When the shotgun has to reload and two or three people have Glocks or whatever, the shotgun will lose.
A KSG will hold 14+1 rounds.
A KSG-25 will hold 20+1.

I thought about doing a thread like this. Need advice for someone who knows absolutely zero about firearms what is a good starter option.

If you use 2 3/4 shells, it’s 24+1; mini shells, you get 40+1........yowzas!

o matter what you get, you need to practice with it. I can’t remember the stat, but in “high stress” situations you are like 20% as efficient/effective with a gun (I.e. the adrenaline is going to make you shake and miss)
When I was looking through cop shooting data they were saying even the police are at 20-30% hit rate. So to get a better idea you need info on everytime an officer fired his gun. Because maybe he used deadly force but never hit the target.

Picked one of these up today. Very reliable for a low entry price. The 5.56 and .223 rounds this fires do everything needed with very little recoil. 30 round clip can take down an entire mob. Lots of stopping power at close range, but can also take down targets accurately at 300 yards. Lots of options to upgrade and add accessories. Would have bought the Savage Recon instead if it was available, but white America is stocking up and there are few left.
