Not to pry, but what was the total? More than 1,200?

Total for just the gun, after taxes and shipping, was $1,140. By itself, it CAN be had for as low as $799. The stock increases that by a decent bit.....the subtotal was $1,080, I believe. Problem is, everybody is buying EVERYTHING up. I did a search, checked a number of retailers and this was literally the single one in stock. Just one. I figured that was my sign.

Ammo, mags and case were all separate. The mags for it are only $20, though, which is a steal.

Is ammo still really expensive? I can't imagine what 1K rounds would cost..

AR-15 tucked away yet still handy by the door for when you catch em early marching up the street. 12 ga shotgun with #8 shot by the bed, for when they feelin frisky and wanna get up close and personal. .44 magnum under your pillow in case you open your eyes and one's standing over you.

I had to buy a brand I had never heard of, Sellier & Bellot; but turns out, it’s apparently good stuff. Their reviews, of which there are many, were all astoundingly good. They actually supply the bulk of ammunition to NATO, so I learned something new. Price on 1,000 was $260. Next closest thing I found was $584, but based on the reviews, I was sold on this stuff.

.357 mag is about as good as you can do for a handgun to stop a person, but it is still a handgun. Unless you hit the CNS no .357 load out of a handgun is going to reliably instantly incapacitate someone.

Buckshot however will very reliably do it at close range with a good hit. A center of mass hit with a whole load of buckshot at close range is probably the most effective single shot stopper on the planet. I'd trust it in that specific scenario more than any of my rifles to reliably give the quickest stop, and stopping the bad guy is the main concern here.

Yeah a .357 will drop somebody. But you have to hit them first. Shotgun is point and spray.

Sure it will if a very specific set of things happen. It's still a handgun and will not reliably accomplish an instant stop.

Most do not come with a spray paint attachment.

No one said a shotgun wouldn't do the job.

You seem to be implying the .357 magnum does not have single shot lethality stopping power.

You are wrong as hell on that assertion.

You ever killed anything with a .357 mag? It's not a death ray, no matter what kind of thermonuclear 125gr hollow points you put in it. I think it's the most effective handgun caliber there is against man sized targets, but it is still a handgun and does not have the horsepower to reliably instantly stop someone. Instantly is the key word here. If you dont hit the spine or head, no handgun will instantly stop a human every time.

Gunbroker is where it’s at right now. Just find a good FFL to transfer to and you’re all set. I buy almost exclusively off of that site.

How old are you? technically a horse can still get you from point A to B. What a HOT take.

Personal protection? I carry a Glock 26 loaded with hollow points while concealing. In my home, I have a S&W 40 M2.0 and a Colt 6920. My girl has a S&W M&P Bodyguard. Currently saving for a Mossberg. If we're both home, we have 4 firearms at the ready - soon to be 5.

The rioting better stay in the city. All I've got to say.

Yep. Used to shoot a bunch of that in my old .40. At the time it wasn’t crazy expensive. Maybe a little more than Winchester for range ammo. Never really looked into their HPs and just bought FMJs to practice with.

Yeah, go pattern a shotgun on some drywall at the typical 10-15 feet most room sizes are and try thinking about the need to aim.

3.5" spread at 12 feet

Good to know! All I could find were really good reviews, so I was sold. Mind you, that's just practice ammo. One of the big reasons we don't go shoot much with what we already have now is that all my rounds are JHP. Now, we got no reason to not go have a little fun. Glad I came across the stuff.

Stopping power is overrated IMO. A home invader isn't going to press on after getting shot, even if it just grazes their ear. Besides, it's not like you don't get to shoot again after hitting them the first time.

If you're going up against someone in body armor and all that, then sure. But for your average situation a 9mm will be more than fine.
