I can fix this easily. Get rid of fully guaranteed contracts. Makes availability a condition of compensation.

If a player is injured and unable to play they receive 60% of their pay. If they want to voluntarily sit out a game, with permission, they get 50%, up to 5 games a year. After those 5 games, they don't get paid for games missed. If a player is active, they have to play at least 4 minutes each game, or the team is fined progressively. Shrink the rosters down to 14, with an injured reserve (for long term injuries). No more stashing talent.

Players will play if money is on the line.
Not much to do with this particular situation, but it can be tough to know where an imaginary line is at with huge emblems at mid-court. It's kind of up to the refs discretion. In this case, it's easy to see he took a step over, after the push off (since he's close to where the line ends). But there is no line there to make it definitive. I think that gives it a bit of latitude.

All way better than Mike Tomlin

Weird you left off Andy Reid.

Tomlin is only 53 years old. If he comes back in a year or two and coaches another 10 years (till he's 65), he'll easily be top 5 all-time in total wins. Hes already top 10. He has a lot of time to cement his legacy..

Refs are human. They see work ethics, character, etc just like we do.

None of that should factor in at all. They should just call the game as they see it. Now something like attitude and behavior might sway an official (bitching and crying). But nothing off the court should be involved.

Zion is just tough to officiate due to his play style. He seeks and initiates contact, plays off it. It's rare, so its never called evenly..

First Steelers coach ever without a playoff victory in 9 seasons

I had to Google. Steelers have only had 3 coaches over the past 55+ years. Prior to that, no other coach lasted for more than 5 years. So it's basically Tomlin vs 2 HOF coaches..

Because why the hell not, I guess.

We have seen pro baseball players return in later years to play other college sports. Why shouldn't other sports athletes (with eligibility remaining) do the same thing. Did he wrestle professionally? I don't think MMA or BJJ count..
Then there is nothing worth watching the rest of this year. Its bad basketball with a horrible mix of players. They gave up on the season..

Cuban’s an IU grad with frick you money. Why shouldn’t he give back to his school in this way?

He can do what he wants, but I don't understand what he gets out of it.

I'm an LSU fan and alumni. It's great when they win, but it doesn't change my life either way. I'm certainly not giving them millions of dollars, if I was a billionaire.

It would be different if this type of donation was building structures or doing something that makes the institution or team more profitable or capable of generating revenue. But buying coaches and players is fleeting and a short term benefit. These teams are a business and shouldn't require massive additional extraneous funding every year. If they do, it's a bad business and probably won't exist long-term..

Trae apparently wanted to get traded to Washington. Why? idk.

The former Atlanta GM is a consultant for the Wizards.

but there's a reason the Hawks haven't done shite with him on the roster.

They made the ECF with him leading the way. That was several years ago and maybe he's not that good anymore. But he was special at one time.

You see how quiet it is right now?

Nobody cares cause we aren't relevant. This is tanking. No body watches and nobody talks. For some reason, this is what everybody believes is necessary. They want to go through years of this. I don't understand it..

He's full of shite. I bought the original Jordan's as a freshman in high school back in 1996, because I liked Michael Jordan.

I hated Jordan and still bought several pairs, plus clothing. Its a popular fashion line, with great products. You really think people are buying Jordan's now due to fandom for a guy that retired over 25 years ago?

It's a bummer. They are coming here on Wednesday and I still haven't decided if I want to go. Is anyone around Atlanta going?
He's totally right and it needs to be addressed moving forward.

It's just a bit ironic and it shows how people mature. Pippin was a very timid, sensitive player and was almost driven out of the league early. He shrunk from expectations and threw a public meltdown when he wasn't handed the franchise. It would have been great if he was this wise while he was playing..
Going up to heavyweight sort of ruined him as a boxer. He didn't have any competition at light heavyweight or cruiserweight (no big $ fights), so he bulked up and moved to heavyweight. He gave up a ton of size in that fight and still won. He should have retired, or stayed at HW or cruiserweight. But dropping back down to light heavyweight was too much of an adjustment and he got beat, a lot. Then he fought for way too long.

If he retired after 50 fights, at 35 years old, with a 49-1 record (with the one lose a total sham), he'd be regarded much higher. That first fight with Tarver showed everyone that he lost too much. He squeaked out a win, but he was never the same. Those 26 additional fights (18-8) after turning 35 just diminished his legacy.

and I don't think that Trey is a mentor-type for the youngins,

We still need talent around them, especially shooters that open up the floor. There is no reason to trade Murphy unless we get a monster return. I mean like a young prospect, and multiple 1sts, that have potential lottery value. Even after we do that, we are going to turn around and be looking for the same kind of unicorn (6'10 shooter). Murphy isn't a star, or maybe not a top 3 option. But he's a 20+ppg volume shooter, especially on a developing team.

quote:

Next season, something like Fears/Herb/Bay/Queen/Missi is good enough to help Fears and Queen develop,

No, that isn't enough. We need scoring around both rookies. Jones has little value and shouldn't be starting with that group. At least Bey gives us a physical presence and the ability to play 3 different spots in the line-up. I'd happily extend him. Jones is declining physically, and his game is predicated on effort. How much longer will that last? He's not a starter in this league and is match-up dependent. I think we should move on, if we can.

quote:

done with Zion

This is the part you gloss over. Zion, Murray, and Poole are combined over 100M in salary next year. We have to replace that, if we move them. If we could turn that into 2 other 20M+ dollar starter level guys, we are more than competitive. No need to do a conventional rebuild (tank and stash). We really aren't that far away, if we make the smart moves..

quote:

Nothing was wrong with the sitting out a year requirement

The schools were the ones that started this, by making scholarships a year-to-year renewal. They would "process" out non-performers, so that they could add new talent. Why wouldn't players have the same opportunities?
quote:

Dort would go to the bench...& fwiw...he won't be back with OKC next season.

1. No, he's not.

2. The Thunder are loaded. Jones would barely crack their 10-man rotation right now.

3. Jones shouldn't be starting for us, yet he's a lock starter for the best team in the league?

4. Jones is functionally weak. He's sub 200lbs at 6'8. Dort is built like a linebacker and can dish out punishment. They need his bulk and power. You are way underestimating his value.

Laveranues Coles new career

Posted by brmark70816 on 12/27/25 at 6:36 am
Great article about Coles, who decided to become a cop in his late 40's. I love seeing stories like this..

LINK
Grant Wistrom, DE, Nebraska

Team went 49-2 with 3 National Championships during his time with the team.

He was a 3x All-conference and 3x All-American (2x 1st team). 2x conference Defensive POTY and a Lombardi Award winner.

It's a pretty loaded resume. The Cornhuskrrs dominated mainly because of defense and he was the star of that unit.

Fears could develop into a player like a Spida or a Westbrook in 3 years for all we know.

That would be awesome. But both of those guys are freak athletes. I just dont see that level of power and explosiveness from Fears. But it would be epic if it happened..
