Temp has been spot on...but the barometric pressure spikes are ridiculous. During the eclipse I had my telescope set up right next to my weather station....later trended the data to match up with the eclipse. Was pretty awesome to see how the temp dropped with the phases of the eclipse.

But I'm a data guy/engineer...so there's that problem too.

I had mine mounted ~25 ft up and the temperature was just so damn inaccurate. I wish there was a way to combine the temp sensor from the lightning detector with the other sensors from the 5 in 1 when it comes to reporting.

I noticed it states that the update is every 16 seconds. Does that count for wind speed as well?

It doesn't capture gusts well at all. Steady winds...it's golden...I've captured very few gusts.

So if you're looking for instantaneous readings...you might want something else. The 1 sample/16 seconds seems about right. I append all my readings to one long excel chart and that's about the gap between readings.

I am surprised that so many people take an interest in the weather on this forum. That's a good thing.

I have an Oregon Scientific home weather station. It measures barometric pressure to the nearest millibar only. Therefore the digital readout is to the nearest 0.03 inches of Hg. The unit measures indoor temperature and humidity as do most wx units. The cost was around $150 15 years ago.

How long do these weather stations last?

I've had the Davis Vantage Vue for several years and really like it. If you want to splurge, you can get the Vantage Pro 2, which let's you separate the sensors for better siting.

Most all weather software programs will support the Davis stations.

I believe I got the one I posted in the OP about 8 years ago for Christmas. Other than changing the batteries, it has worked fine until last week. Now the display will not connect to the sending unit outside....

Davis is the "cream of the crop" when it comes to weather stations. They are used by regular individuals and weather professionals alike. They offer many different options, but they can get expensive.

I had some issues out of my last Davis, so I got the Ambient Weather WS-1001-WiFi (Wireless). I love it. It has given me zero issues thus far. It comes with a digital monitor which connects via wifi to WeatherUnderground.com where you can monitor its data online.

No...but I have a barometric pressure/temperature sensor that I use with an Arduino. I'm sure I can get an RH and anemometer too if I look hard enough.

You're doing it wrong!

If it's windy/hot/cold you don't need a computer to tell you. You can do that yourself.

Get a weather radar for a boat and stick it on your roof.

And a nice old fashioned barometer looks nice in your study.

I am having issues with my WS1001, which is why my next by will be the Davis for about the same price.

After doing research it seems AW does have issues with their units dying just outside of warranty.

I got this Ambient Weather WS-900 for Christmas last year and I like it. There were some communication issues early on but it has been solid for 7 months or so. I do wish I had a soil moisture sensor/ meter which some of the high end models do have. Also, I thought I would miss having a dedicated display unit but I have a weather underground account setup that allows me to monitor everything on my phone, tablet, computer with the weather underground app.

x 2 ... know of 2 people who have a small plane pilots license and fly regularly. Both use Davis weather stations at their home and hanger. I plan on buying one in next few months.

I have the Davis Weatherlink app on my iPhone. I saved several locations near my residence and where I hunt to confirm current temps and weather conditions.
