The perfect watch for Florida is one that you can wear being arrested for indecent exposure in the early morning, bail out, go to your parents’ house for lunch, have to call EMS there because your mom and dad’s AARP gang bang has gone amok, and then hang out with Casey Anthony later in the evening.

So probably a G-Shock

Sadly...cant argue against that point.

I ordered a G-shock and a NATO band today. Needed something rugged to wear to the gym and when I'm working outside.

Although in reality all of our watches are neglected in favor of our Apple Watches

You can wear what you want.

I see an Apple Watch, I see someone who’s life is tethered to the internet, and an electrical outlet.

My more money suggestion would be an 80s era Oyster Perpetual.

You could wear it with almost everything, including formal wear.

I like it for nothing to do with the internet and nobody uses an Apple Watch for the “internet”.

When you take your watch off at night, do you just throw it on the floor? Do you have a watch case? Maybe a bowl on your night stand? Don’t lie, you do one of those things. What is the difference setting a watch on top of a charger? Super inconvenient.

I’ve got a fairly decent collection of watches and had the same mindset until I got an Apple. Being able to switch bands to match my boots is also nice.

Let me be the voice of reason, save your money until you have enough to buy a watch that you actually want. There are very nice “time pieces” ( ) for under 5k

I personally love the Omega Speedmaster, you can find one for a good price if you’re okay with lightly used

The only time I have a watch off my wrist is when I am switching to a new watch (I rotate watches once a day) or if an I am the shower and I am wearing a low WR dress watch.

I understand the allure of wearable tech. It doesn't begin to overshadow my love for mechanical watches though.

Watches are somewhat of a hobby of mine and I like the fact I understand what each part in the entire movement does and the fact I can take it apart and reassemble it. I like the fact that all (save my one quartz watch) can easily remain functional for decades after my death.

There are plenty of people for whom an Apple watch is perfect and for others, it is simply a disposable piece of redundant tech. Some people love mechanical watches and some think they are simply a useless anachronism.

As for the OP and his desire for a watch for a formal occasion, I would personally wear a simple dress watch or no watch at all. I wouldn't be caught dead in a tux with a tool watch or wearable tech on, no more than I would wear tennis shoes are combat boots with a tux. If those were my options I would not wear a watch, which is actually even more traditional than wearing any watch at all.
