So you don't want people to move in to your neighborhood, potentially raising the value of your property?

I like when they buy and tear down houses in Metairie Club Gardens. Building nice new houses has made my property value explode. They just added Old Metairie security enhancement district to our area. Now even more security and more police presence. If they could clone Harry Lee and have him as sheriff again, it would be the icing on the cake.

Old Metairie is a great place to live.

No I don’t. I could give a rats arse about raising value of an asset that will only be realized in yearly taxes or on my sold date. I don’t plan on selling soon.

Been in English Turn tons of times for work, it's just a nice gated neighborhood in an isolated area. If I'm going to be that far away from everything I'd rather just build a mansion in an area where I'd have some actual land to myself.

Well this depends on if you have a family or single.

Family: River Ridge, Old Metairie, Metairie, Lakeview

Single: Uptown near Audubon (nicest area to live in all of Louisiana), bayou St. John, Irish channel, Navarre

I have lived in Metairie, River Ridge, and now the Garden District.

Everything you noted applies to me and my home in NOLA Proper.

If you live in Lakeshore as your handle suggests the roads by your house are absolute shite. My old boss drove an old corvette (beautiful convertible can't remember the year- 60's tho) and he had to store it in METAIRIE because he couldn't drive it home due to the streets. I would take him to where he stored his car and he would drive it around for the day and then I'd follow him back to Metairie when he was ready to store it again. He ended up selling it because he couldn't drive it around town like he wanted due to the shitty roads in New Orleans proper.

Things I don't hate:
I have never had to replace a smashed window cause my car gotten broken into;
Not one house in my neighborhood has been robbed in the over 15 years I've lived in my house;
No carjackings on my street or anywhere near my house;
I feel safe going to the gas station and grocery store;
My property value continues to go up as more people leave Orleans Parish.

I grew up in NW Kenner, for 30 years and all of this applies to me.
People without any knowledge love to shite talk Kenner, but it was as safe and peaceful as anywhere.

I bought in St Charles last year and it’s even more peaceful. I’ve left my garage door open over night on accident numerous times and never felt worried.
Work in New Orleans and it takes me 26 mins to get to work.

I hate traffic, busy areas and redlights, so it’s a hidden gem for me.

Uptown near Audubon - lived there right before moving to Old Metairie. Beautiful old houses and charming area with lots of trees, but streets were in crap condition; had stuff stolen off of front porch, car broken into, and wife had purse snatched while she was putting our baby into the car. No thanks.

Navarre - Lived there as newlyweds in the early 90s; loved it at the time. Remains a great neighborhood; but still, you've got New Orleans elected officials, NOPD, and SWBNO in charge.

Lakeview, Bayou St. John, Irish channel - See Navarre above.

Yeah, just make sure you invest in the highest 4X4 vehicle you can afford to drive up and down the fricking streets.

Equally annoying are the “not St. Tammany, it’s full” people living in their cookie cutter houses, fighting 30 minutes to get on the causeway so they can drive another 45 minutes to get to New Orleans.

I agree with this sentiment. You have two of these schmucks in here already:

At capacity. No thanks. Unless you wanna live in the Dirty Dell

St. Tammany is full.

It’s also a idiotic take. Cities need population growth to thrive. More people means more tax payers, which means better services, higher property values, etcetera.

LV gets a lot of shite for the streets but the streets are just as bad in the nicest areas of Uptown, LGD, etc...

Streets everywhere are shite

Depends on your lifestyle. I would say Mandeville if you want a suburban like to raise children, uptown New Orleans if you are a single 20-something or 30 something looking to party. Old Metairie is pretty great as well. River Ridge if you’re a family person on a budget.

Outside St. Tam and Metairie:

I like River Ridge a lot. Nice safe area, close to amenities still in Metairie, also close to the airport.

I also like Belle Chasse as an area, but its also slightly more vulnerable to flooding than say a River Ridge and you'll be relying heavily on going into the West Bank often for amenities and other stuff - Target, Chick fil a, Starbucks, gyms etc. Manhattan Blvd is about bareable.

Yeah, if someone suggests those areas I'd say the same thing. It's crazy what those people have to drive over to get home.

I have great streets over in The Point fwiw. There are some bad ones here and there but we're good over here for the most part.
