Yeah I was going to recommend Charleston. It's the ideal southern city. Nice people, very clean town, amazing food, great place to raise a family, right by the water and not far from mountains.

move out west..Arizona has a few baseball parks and great fishing.
I'm lying about the fishing. Take up golf.

I do golf, but I could do that in Louisiana

I'm wanting to live somewhere that has kept its Southern culture, so some big cities will probably be out. I like to fish, hunt, and boat, and would prefer to be within 3 or 4 hours of a baseball stadium (preferably Rangers or Braves but I could live with watching them play the Astros).
The less traffic the better, and the closer to those 4 things the better.
Chattanooga, TN
Fish - Chickamauga - Excellent (State Record Bass)
Hunt - Pretty Good
Boat -
Less than 2 hours from Suntrust park to watch the Braves. Also, you have this for the local minor league Chattanooga Lookokuts
Plus you have the waterfront development
ETA...Publicly owned gigabit internet throughout the entire area.

I will be having kids in 4 years so if you can recommend me some neighborhoods with nice schools and low crime that would be appreciated too.

Hoover, AL. 1.75 hrs to SunTrust park. Fantastic public schools. Great prep sports programs (Baseball team just won the 7A championship). Great place to live.

Have fun with that.
Sure, you're close to a lot of things, but it is generally expensive, crowded, horrible traffic, uppity, etc.

Where is a good place in the South to get a fresh start?
It sure as hell isn't New Orleans I can tell you that!

Raleigh/Chapel Hill (research triangle area), NC
Mountain Brook is expensive as hell. I'd recommend Homewood instead.
Murfreesboro, TN (close enough to Nashville).

Savannah, GA.
Savannah ain't what it's cracked up to be. I'd recommend somewhere like Alpharetta. Was going to say Charleston, SC but that's similar to Savannah. Not the way it's depicted
