I'd do Hoover instead of mountain brook but Birmingham would be ideal for what you're looking for. Has plenty to do but isn't too big like an Atlanta or Nashville

Here is a nice piece of property that just became available. Located near Bayou St. John, convenient location.

Raleigh/Durham is amazing.
No traffic. Great infrastructure. 2 hours from both the beach and mountains. All four seasons. Good people.

I'd never heard of the place but Google tells me it is a bedroom community of Shreveport, has no property taxes, good schools, some new shale jobs, a shitload of houses that look like this, for around $350k:
and a few homes that look like this, for a little over $100k:
If the local girls are thin and have accents I might move there myself.

Traffic was pretty bad in Raleigh/Durham before the 540 outer loop was finished. That area is growing extremely fast. Will be over 2 million MSA pretty soon.

I've heard it's pretty cool but Texas isn't very Southern

The only place I'd move to in Alabama is Huntsville. Birmingham and Mobile have just as cultcha as NOLA. Montgomery is meh.
