Nicholson already needs to be widened and the plan to do so has been around for over 10 years

but this would also fuel the need for Nicholson needing to be widened
quote:Dude. yes it have been in the works for a long time. But do you understand the design challenges that project has, including having to work with the Railroad? Which it takes a literal act of congress to get them to comply.
Heck, the plan for turn lanes on Nicholson for turning onto Lee/Brightside has been around since 1989

i love the no left turn from boyd but lets face it, we cant have flashing yellow/red.
people in this city are just too stupid to use it properly.

What if you need to get from Acadian to Boyd on the other side of Burbank? Do you go all the way too Lee which is backed up tremendously and virtually impassable much of the day? Do you go to Parker, which was already backed up on school days almost as bad as Boyd? Where do you put all of these cars?

I agree. They're way too stupid for this.

West Parker or Nicholson ext. I readily admitted it sucked for those living on Boyd.
But Nicholson ext. is much easier to use than you are making it out to be. If traffic is backup coming away from campus, cars always leave a gap for people stopped at the yield sign pass through. If it's not backed up then you wait a few seconds at most for a gap in traffic to pass.

Did you not reed my post saying that it sucks that they have to wait on the railroad? Jeez, you're dense.
There's already plenty of fuel that Nicholson needs to be widened. Hundreds of motorists take River Road on their commutes home from downtown because they can't get through the intersection of Nicholson at Brightside/Lee in a timely manner. It's easier for them to go the extra 7 miles then to sit in traffic because that road cannot handle the capacity it has. Unfortunately, you're right, it doesn't matter because the railroads don't care. However, that doesn't mean that they couldn't restripe Nicholson by partially eliminating the shoulder near that intersection, changing the straight/left lane to a left turn only and the right turn lane into a right/straight and adding turn signals as a temporary solution until the railroads consent and they can improve the intersection for good.
Such a solution has been done in several places around the city and works really well.
Bottom line is that DOTD is pure, straight, incompetent.

Why don't they just put in two roundabouts? One at Jennifer Jean and one at East Boyd.

That signal is coming down. I think by law, they have to remain up and flashing for a period of time.
Yes... we are surrounded by idiots.

3 reasons:
1. Not enough room
2. Round-a-bouts are absolute clusterf&%ks when they involve roads that are more than 2 lanes wide
3. 18 Wheeler's struggle to navigate traffic circles that aren't crazy wide.

ah ok so its just temporary and then it will be just be a 2 way stop sign?

quote:do me a favor and go look up who owns the land around nicholson. once you do that find out how much money it would cost to buy up all that land/relocate business etc. and com back to me with a simple plan to complete all that work......Then tell me DOTD doesnt have their hands kinda tied with this.

No i do not work for DOTD but i understand way more than you do about this area/design/traffic/ construction. So stop talking out of your arse.

Would you like me to draw you a picture?

You don't have to buy up land! That's what I'm saying! There's enough room on the shoulder to re-stripe and make it work. They don't have to buy any land! I f&%king measured it!

I don't work for DOTD either, but I work in the same industry. I live in the neighborhood and have driven those streets my entire life. I know what I'm talking about. I even submitted ideas to the LSU post-game traffic study and they are implementing several of my ideas.
With the right striping and lights with turn signals, there is a cheap and feasible solution to the traffic right there.
