Any burial grounds should be protected, that’s just common sense

Why? They just remind us of how horrible that time period was.
So a slave's grave should be treated differently from a free person's grave?

Reason 1001 of why Vikings funerals are the best

There's nothing to prove those are slaves. It's just an assumption and that alone makes it an awful reminder. It's a bad time in our nation's history. Look at the damage done. Graves, memorials, statues, re-enactments, museums - it all needs to go.

I actually thought that cemeteries were already protected as such...If not, then I can understand that there needs to be some kind of restriction against desecrating burial sites.
This also begs the question...why would special laws be passed to protect graves containing people of color, but not to protect the graves of others?

wasn’t even going to mention the statues given the myriad of problems this bill raises but, yeah, the hypocrisy is pretty fricking blatant.
The hypocrisy of looking at whether we should protect slave graves and take down monuments?
I mean... I guess you can rage out about that but... do you really want to?
As for the laws... almost no good way to handle it. Terrible things like slavery cause nasty ripple effects and those ripples become waves when you try to ignore them. Addressing something like this would be much easier decades ago. Now? Not sure you can do a ton

A nightmare for landowners. No way to really know what is there and a potential for a claim that makes the land completely worthless or at least greatly limits use. A truly terrible bill. What if your home is on top of a site claimed to possibly have a slave buried there?

Put the nightmare behind us. Leave no trace. Look forward.

If there is a clearly marked burial site, slave or free, leave it undisturbed. But it sounds like this says a claim of a site can result in a taking from an innocent landowner. And if pictures of equipment are to suggest a coverup your prejudice is showing. This would mess up title stability regardless of who is the owner.

A coverup of what?
I'm just saying to remove everything that reminds us about the civil war.

This situation is not defined with finite and explicit parameters. Therefore proven.

Well, it's nice to see that this legislation isn't being driven hyperbolic rhetoric or anything.

Why are you clapping? I just proved it.
Can we get on with eradicating these burial grounds?
Purge the Civil War
Every bit of it
It's too painful
We need to remove it all and pretend it doesn't exist
Move on

I don't find any of this funny. This is a serious topic.
Plow up these burial sites. Plow them all up. They take up too much land.
