I just bought an xlt sport with the eco boost. Love it so far. Msrp was 53.8k and I paid 42k, they were running a leather and bed liner deal as well when I went

Tacoma will have enough ground clearance.

The new Rangers look pretty sweet

Every choice is a compromise, at some level. Based on what you have said, this is what I would recommend:
1. Tundra- Solid truck, no bad habits, lacks bells and whistles, poor rear seat room.
2. Ford F-150- market leader, latest bells and whistles, best cab/rear seat room, build quality could be improved.
3. Dodge/Ram- appears better, big screen on the dash, I'm neutral on them which is a step up from avoid.
4. GM- losing market share, on strike, silly, over-priced tailgate. Best V-8 (6.2) of any of the players.
5. Nissan- great sounding V-8, dated interior, Nissan is in flux. Pass.

Less than 40?
Buy a canyon, all the bells and whistles. And then jack the thing up.
I'm sure there is a sport kit for em.
Cheap trucks but they will suffice

He isn't getting the awesome tailgate nor 6.2 in a truck under 40k.
A Colorado ZR2 sits high enough for fording flooded streets.
eta-Can even get a snorkel for the ZR2. I feel the OP will be able to get through his flooded street without issue.

Do what us river rats do, park on high ground when you know it will flood, take the kayak or pirogue to the car. Profit.

Don’t buy new. It’s not worth it. With your budget I would get a slightly used Ford F-150 XLT crew cab 5.0 L V8.
I actually like the previous generation body style better. If you agree, then look for a 2014 f-150 with as few miles as possible. Check the vehicle history report to make sure it was never a rental.

????? great engine - no turbo - decent MPG - loads of cruising and acceleration power - proven for years as a reliable power plant - so what are you talking about???
I’ve heard a lot of people having issues with the new 5.0. Ford made some recent changes to the engine.

You can get a 2017 4WD Tundra 4-door, with about 30k miles in the low $30's. I have a buddy that has one and it is big inside, comfortable and the lower end dress packages have some cool options.
The long wheel base can make a U-turn with about 1/4 mile of clearance though.

I bought a Ram 1500 Laramie. Beautiful truck. I love it. This is my 3rd Ram and have had no problems with any of them.

Lol. The Coyote is a fantastic motor.

The Tundra Crewmax has the biggest back seat.

Ford has a killer deal on F150 XLTs with free leather and a bed liner that worth looking at this time of year.

They all have strong engines. Ford ecoboost is the strongest so F150 is the fastest truck if you care about speed. I would avoid the 5.0 V8. And don’t get a sunroof.
Are you serious? The 5.0 is one of the most solid motors being produced today. I’ll take the coyote over the eco boost 7 days a week.

I love my Tacoma but I don't have to tow anything big, and I don't have people riding in my back seats a lot. I know you said full size, but you mentioned Tacoma and I wanted to throw my 2 cents in. A 4x4 TRD with a 2" lift can do everything you need re: flood waters. Like I said, the only issues you'd have are back seat space and towing, and honestly price compared to a full size. They cost about the same, but the resale is nice.

With just under 41 inches of front seat headroom and 44 inches of front seat legroom, the F-150 offers slightly more space for front seat passengers than the Tundra, which offers 40 inches of headroom and 43 inches of legroom up front. The F-150's back seat is larger, as well, with 40 inches of headroom and a whopping 44 inches of legroom, compared to the Tundra's 39 inches and 42 inches, respectively.
Not true. The cab in a Ford is incredibly spacious. But you honestly can’t go wrong with any of the companies as trucks are more reliable than ever.
You can buy a F150 XLT or an equivalent Ram trim for the low 30s. Those would be my 2 choices. The Tundra does have the best resale.

Rams sure look nice. I’ve heard complaints about the brakes and weak AC.
I've been driving a 2019 Ram all over the southwest this summer and the AC has been awesome.

I've had the Ecoboost for a couple of years now and I agree with you, go with the 5.0 V8 all day everyday.
