re: My father passed away

My condolences on the loss of your father. I actually saw this obituary today as I was reading the newspaper. You did a very nice job and I’m sure your father would be honored. It struck me today how there were a number of people who seemed to have lived great lives and left behind grateful family members made better by their time here on earth. May we all be so fortunate.

That’s a great section of New Orleans. That vibe is what we need here in more places. The overpass area is about the closest we come. Government street is continuing to develop.
I guess the Oracle sees a questionable future.

There is a 100% chance that if the battery in your smoke detector is starting to die, it will let you know between the hours of 2am and 3am.

Someone may say this is incorrect, but I've heard that can happen because the temps are cooler at night and batteries are temperature sensitive. A colder battery will fail before a warm battery as the theory goes.

So if the battery is about to die, it is more prone to beep at night when it is cooler than during the day.

Maybe he'll do a special collection with Target next fall.
It seems like I remember they once made a big deal about getting an LSU alumni email address.

You might think the costs to maintain this would be slim and continuing this program would help them stay in touch with the alumni base. Maybe someone has some insight.

And I have to say, the staff at Morning Call has always been super friendly and appreciative. Given how badly most new coffee chains now handle customer service, it’s a nice change of pace.

I'll hit the Morning Call near the City Park/Canal Blvd intersection when I want some coffee before driving back to BR. It's right off the Metairie Rd exit on I-10.
Or the phone calls where TV characters say something dramatic then simply hang up. No small talk or good byes.
The scene with the car was worth it alone. The sound of the doors and windows, you can almost remember how cars like that were back then. It also didn’t start immediately. After a few years, you had to fidget with the carburetor so the car would start right.

That store reminded me of the one here in BR that is now the BREC facility, before it moved to Cortana.
It’s just a screen people use if they’re deciding to invite you out for drinks later. You failed.

re: Chalmette Dining?

How is Meme’s these days? I know it’s considered more like steaks and fine dining but they also have poboys, burgers, and regular things on the menu. We used to go after fishing trips down that way when we wanted a good meal.
You’ll get grief on here, but considering how many times people have difficulty transferring tickets or receiving them (particularly on campus with game day reception issues alone), it can be nice to have a paper ticket as well.

The easiest work around I’ve found, FWIW, is just screenshot the tickets and text them as pics rather than use the LSU athletics system if someone can’t get it to work.
It seems like around the early 80's after Jaws had scared people senseless about sharks, someone claimed there were hammerheads in Lake Pontchartrain.

I always enjoy a good WWII movie. Quick question is - this a very similar plot to the movie Tom Selleck was featured as Ike?

I wish Hollywood would do a good film on some other topics, like the Jedburghs in France, the Italian campaign, or the tense environment in Germany immediately after the Allies took over.

That's an old school method from back when you could only get shite steaks in a grocery store and they were typically cut rather thin.

I agree with this when it comes to why recipes used to call for a marinade more. I think people forget how most grocery store beef was not flavorful and often tough. Grocery store chickens would have no natural flavor if not almost soapy tasting. Marinading was a way to tenderize and boost flavor. Good beef is readily available now, only needing minimal effort to enhance flavor.
It’s a shame to see. New Orleans once featured numerous local high end stores. Luxury department stores are struggling, with fewer chains left, and Saks is on the ropes.

FIFY
Nothing today, even with black seats, feels hot like the old cars with vinyl interiors. Maybe they have more insulation and tinted/treated windows reflect better. Even the old “light” interiors would get hot. The old metal seatbelt latches would burn your leg off as a kid.
