Nothing got lost in the shuffle here. The old insurance was cancelled and backdated to 5 days before the new effective date. It's very simple.

I think your missing my point. I understand the rule. I get it, according to the rule I owe $125. What I am saying is the fine is to prevent people from going uninsured. Which I technically did not go uninsured. If something would have happened in those 5 days, I would have been covered. But after the fact, those five days were lost.

If you can get a letter from State Farm that you were insured on 6/30 with them, you won't owe a dime.
Just call your State Farm agent.

There's an old video of me paying my LSU fee bill in ones.
Best part, I'm 3 bucks short and the lady says it will be considered late, I said I'll go get some change out of my ashtray.
In a panic she said: "we will waive it!"
Charge me a credit card processing fee....

What's irritating is that at no point in time did I not have insurance. If something were to have happened 6/26 I would have had coverage. If I were pulled over, the cop would have seen I had coverage but I switch and 5 days gets lost in the shuffle and bam $125 fine. That's ridiculous.
WRONG....if someone called the police today and has a video of you hitting their car, and it falls in that 5 day period, you would have NO insurance to file it against!
Can you understand that? You were not covered and relieved them (old ins) of any liability signing documents cancelling proactively.

Insurance would not be necessary as there would be no case. This is from more than a year ago and the statute of limitations has occurred. I get your point but that still doesn't effect the situation though. As the fine is to prevent someone from continuing to drive uninsured.

Play the race card (whether or not you are a minority) and they will end up giving you more money than you owe.

And the point of that is?????????
wait for it.......
to make sure you have coverage at all times. And if you want to go all legal and throw some bs "statute of limitations" don't you agree that during that year, you were exposed to that happening and you would have had ZERO coverage, and that is against the law! Period
Tell us, why ddi you proactively cancel it? Let me help the board understand, you had a premium due, didn't pay it, got new cheaper insurance, and just let the other on cancel so you wouldn't have to pay the prorated balance for those 5 days.

If you're in a fighting mood, you could probably call State Farm and have them print a letter.
The state isn't taking our letter as of right now. So this is not an option.

now that is some bullshite
i almost want to research if the state can be sued for some sort of state consumer protection law
it would be like a snake eating its own tail; government having to suffer at the hands of government

Actually, read on page one. I was on parents insurance and they asked me to get my own. I did and informed them that I was covered. They canceled my insurance back to the renewal date that was 5 days before my effective date. (They didn't know and neither did I, honest mistake)
There was no intention of skirting he law, which can be seen by the fact that it was back dated and a refund received.
You are right that if something were to have happened in that year I wouldn't have been covered. That isn't the case though and it is clearly an honest mistake. There's no need to be a hard arse about it. People get off for more serious stuff all the time.

Yes it is. Why do you think they are sending you the letter? The whole money grab is about not having continual insurance. It is BS, but you do not have a leg to stand on. An honest mistake, while benign, is still a mistake for which you owe under the law.

So here is my gripe: I moved out of state in July. Went to the DMV here in NC and they told me (incorrectly) that I had to move insurance to NC before I could change my license... I so I did that and transferred insurance from LA to NC before I moved the title to NC.
I then received a letter for my vehicle. Emailed the OMV (InsuranceInquiry@la.gov) and got this response:
Your vehicle registration and driver's license are blocked because our
records show policy number XXXXXXX with
STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE on your XXXXX cancelled on
07/01/2015. Since the vehicle was registered out of state more than
10 days after the policy cancelled, you must pay OMV a reinstatement fee of
$275.00 in order to reinstate this block.
My insurance never lapsed, but am I reading that bc my vehicle was registered in LA but not insured in LA I am liable for a penalty???

Dude it sucks but it is the price of not following the law. I always complain that it sucks to be responsible because everyone else that's not doing all the BS I'm doing are getting off scott free.
About time the irresponsibles are being held accountable. Usually, I'm totally against this sort of thing but the whining about the damn letters is out of hand.

If you received a letter out of nowhere with over $800 in fines you'd have your jimmies rustled too.
...but continue on with your poor attempt at trolling

you said it was $275. Of course I'd be pissed, but if I fricked up, I'd pay it. If I was right, I'd get the documentation necessary to fix it instead of whining on TD about it.
