I would bet the average bench max for an American male is 150 lbs

In all likelihood the average American male has never attempted a bench press. I'm guessing if we put everyone to it the average would be less than 150 lbs, too.

When I started lifting, I could do 185 easily. How does one struggle with just the bar lol?

I contend that someone 6’1” 200 lbs and not fat will be able to rep 300 lbs, yes

Because that person is going to be muscle bound and a lifter, which is how they got to that size

Mingo you aren’t the only one that spends time in a gym. And some of us are actually in gyms, not some “box”. The size quoted would be the heavier DBs or smaller Wrs on the lsu team. I’ve seen them countless years in the gym and seen the numbers.

Hell, we had someone on the tennis team at lsu who was 6,1” 180 and shredded and his max was 305

You couldn’t if you had never worked out before.

Well, all the data says you are wrong.

not any more.
right shoulder is pretty much done.

had a surgery, but did very little to help pain, range of motion, or strength.

at somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 extension, my strength is almost non existent now.

have you ever tried a real rehab? im not talking some bullshite...put you on a electric stim machine, im talking rehab that rebuilds your range of motion and strength over a 6-12 month period?

might want to look into knees over toes ATG shoulder program and crossover sym program.

Show me the data that shows a 6’1” 200 lbs muscular male can’t rep 300 lbs?

You realize the data that defines “elite” status etc takes into account everyone, so that is taking into account fat arse weaklings as well. When you can stratify to specifically an athletic strong muscular person, that data is t really meaningful at alle

So your only measure of success is elite level athletes?

Someone who is 6’1” 200 lbs and ripped is going to be elite in terms of muscle and strength. There isn’t really another way ylu can be that size

They may be slow and uncoordinated, but in terms of muscle and strength they are all elite at that size and stature

No it doesn't, might want to actually check before just talking out of your arse. It uses people who lift weights to ststify what is good for weight lifters. Who'd a thunk that?

Why are you saying 6'1 200 completely ripped only? That is criteria you created out of no where.

6'1 200 after work lifter. Good shape and fitness but 15% bf would likely not be able to lift 300.

if you are 6’1 200 lbs ylu are likely fat which is why you are weak. Becasue if that is actual muscle weight you will be benching in the 300s easy

Not necessarily true. I don't ever max out so I don't know what I'd do for 1 RM. 300+ Is serious weight, even for people who regularly work out.

It takes focus on increasing your bench to do that. Most people are happy to do 185x10 for 3 sets and move on.

Better questions are how well do you rep decent weight on squats, deadlifts, and can you run a 5k?

If you can rep 225 for more than 5 you're in the top 5-10% of people.

6'1 200 lbs is going to be really lean to also be strong. That's not very heavy for 6'1 if you are lifting big weights

Someone would still have to be seriously devoted to gaining in that specific lift to bench that much
