No different than every other city in Louisiana. Shitty is as shitty does.

Even if it’s true, is Hooters really going to make a city a more attractive place to live lol

So some cities don’t have more shite ghetto areas than others? What are you getting at? And as far as the other point they’ve had the same mediocre leadership for years now. The DA, the sheriff’s office, APD. The current mayor was in office for a few terms before his current one. The last mayor in between that term was terrible. I’m not saying all these guys are the scum of the earth but they maybe it’s time for some new blood.

It's not about Hooters independently.
Having a Hooters in a town is a sign that business is welcome. Replace Hooters with any other modern chain restaurant/store.
Chipotle, MOD Pizza, Trader Joe's, etc.
Are these stores revolutionary by themselves? No. But they are leaders in signaling that it was cost effective for them to set up shop, and they believe the demographic is correct for them to make some money.
And if you are a group that would rather take a stand against a harmless business due to your preferences, that's fine. Honestly, that's okay. But other businesses will see what happened, and they will know that setting up business in your town requires more time, more headache, possible extra costs due to bureaucracy, etc. and they won't come. Which is how you get stagnation.
It's not the entire reason for stagnation, but it is a portion of it. My thought is if you have a good leadership in education and you focus funds there, you attract young families with means, you attract good teachers, those people rise up in the community and make stopping crime a priority, beautification increases, and your town starts to get rolling.
Right now Jacques Roy believes that if he slaps housing up downtown, people will come, and then businesses will follow suit. Which can happen, but you have to do something about the crime first. Nobody is living downtown when you have lower 3rd a mile south of the city center. You have to get the crime cleaned up, which means you have to have a demographic that cares about that.
With no meaningful economy other than Timber, you need some reason for people to want to invest in the area. You won't beat Lafayette and Lake Charles in an economic battle with what they do with O&G and LNG. My personal opinion is if you put funds into it and a concentrated effort, it'd be most efficient to make Cenla known for its K-12 educational opportunities. it won't be quick, but Alexandria occupies the center of the state, and you'll get the best all the way from Lafayette to Monroe/Shreveport if you're educating better than the other bigger cities on I-10 and I-20.
Again, it's a pipe dream, because doing so means overhauling the entire government with people who want to make the area better. People who want to make the area better generally leave because they see what a lost cause it is.

Yeah I’m with on you the rest I just think it’s silly to blame a church about the city’s problems, even partially, because years ago they didn’t want a hooters setting up and that created a snowball affect making Alexandria what it is now. In the last 5 years they’ve gotten 2 Panda Express, 2 whataburgers, small sliders, Freddys, Walk Ons, and a ton of Mexican restaurants. Yeah none of those are special but it shows businesses think it would be profitable to open shop.
I still go back to the brain drain and like you said people who could make a difference leave town. The biggest what if to me is if LSU would’ve stayed in Pineville instead of being moved to BR. That whole area would be completely different today.

Yep better call Small. It's always been know around Cenla that if you acquire Mike Small then you are guilty as hell and are praying he can get you off or sentence reduced.

Sam has now gone on Facebook and suggested it was the devil who made him slap a twelve year old girl and hit her mom.

They bolted because all that land @ Millerville and I-12 flooded in 2016.

Interesting. Lots of people praying the devil away, so I guess he’ll be okay.

Pretty gross to use the devil as a scapegoat. Pretty gross to see people supporting him.

I am a little hurt that the devil cares not about me and my wife.

I can affirmatively state here that the devil has never caused me to hit a woman.
Where’s my prize?

Where’s my prize?

The devil made me do it will not be an acceptable defense.
Dumb post in my opinion, but he’s playing to his religious/church followers.

I just can’t believe how well it’s working.
Part of the problem around here. Not that religion is a priority to people. Rather people around here are really, REALLY fricking good about doing awful shite and then using god to not take responsibility. I’ve seen it so often it blows my mind.

You have some examples of this happening very often around here?

I have plenty of shitbag people that I knew growing up who have done the following:
Robbed a liquor store at gunpoint
Assaulted cashiers
Shot people
And they will only talk about god, the devil, and sin. And they do it because they know people around here won't talk back if the topic of god comes up.
That's 3 different people immediately off the top of my head. If I dig deeper there are likely more.

I doubt any of that ever happened. With that being said you act as though people here have cornered the market on hypocrisy. It happens every day, everywhere. I’ve seen you bitch on here multiple times about how unhappy you are here. What’s keeping you from leaving? Don’t you work from home? Can’t you live anywhere you want?
Posted on 1/2/25 at 11:59 am to Odysseus32
I’m following the situation. Don’t know about the area issues you’re referencing.

Sam is definitely a fraud and probably trying to save his career if possible. He’s a dbag for sure
