Hiatal Hernia

See a cardiologist. Anytime chest pain can be described as pressure, it should be considered coronary artery disease until proven otherwise.
Do you only get it at night? because there is something called angina decubitus. Or do you get chest pain or shortness of breath with exertion too?
Either way, chest pain isn't something to play with. see a cardiologist.

Your body is giving you a wake-up call. If you're over 40 there's a chance that you've got some artery blockage. If you're lucky it won't be in your main artery. If not, there's a reason they call that the widow maker. My brother died of a sudden heart attack at 57 but he had been experiencing symptoms for a long time and just ignored them.
See your doctor stat and don't downplay the symptoms.

Get checked.
How old are you? Your gerd could have gotten worse.
You could also have "fat guy at a desk back disease" (my term). You've sat curled up like a shrimp for 6-8 hours then poor posture on couch with family. NOW you want to straighten up and lay flat? Body says "frick you! Hurt!"
But go see a doc and tell them what you said here. "Feels like a guy standing on my sternum". You'll get some attention.

You did the right thing by asking the OT heart specialists

Agreed...people coming on a public message board for advice for serious medical issues/questions is naive.
To the OP, you should go get seen by a doctor for full history and physical/workup instead of seeking advice in here.

Some of the pseudo serious medical suggestions here are scary.
But seriously. Go at least to the doctor today if not the ED

You must see a doctor. It may not be your heart but it is possible to have multiple small heart attacks, until the big one hits you.

I started having chest pressure at 22-25 or so. Heart was fine, BP a little elevated but they thought it was probably due to anxiety related to my chest issues. I'm 31 now and it has declined a lot, although after a hard night out or at a really stressful time it can flare up and bother me. It doesn't hurt much, I'm just ultra sensitive to buttons, a collar, someone poking me in the chest, etc. It doesn't get worse with exertion, which is something people with unresolved chest issues can take some comfort in, according to my doctor.
Anyway, GERD and anxiety can do crazy things to your body. There are a lot of people who have chest related issues but have good hearts. Just get checked out and see what happens.

WHat's your age?
Family history of heart disease?
Any time you feel pressure on the chest (usually a big time symptom of angina or heart-related issues) you should get evaluated by a doctor.
It could be something as benign as reflux, but you may have some arteries blocked that could use a stent. You should go to a cardiologist if you're over 35.

Go see a physician.
It's probably AR or a hiatal hernia, but you need to get it looked at by a professional, either way.

This! Don't play around with chest pain. May be nothing but it's better to be safe and not take chances.
