I’ve been up since 8:00, wife is visiting her sister, and I’ve been alone, drinking coffee, and looking at TD.

Sounds alright

Like many have said it happens when you age. Just enjoy your kids excitement and remember that use to be you.

Merry Christmas.

It's one of the many reasons that I don't care for Christmas. All this build up and talk and people getting worked into a frenzy only for it to pop like a wet firework. I used to work in restaurants and would see how the mood of people changed in December. People were grumpy and stressed out but put on a big fake smile and acted like they loved the holidays. I'm convinced that no one else really likes it either. It's the big facade where people can't afford to buy the gifts they really want to get because they have to buy all the other gifts they feel like they need to get. So, they're disappointed because they can't really 'wow' anyone and the giftees can only get so excited about a $25 gift card to Home Depot. They act happy because it's polite but the whole point is lost and the only people that are happy are the retailers because they sold x amount of junk that is now sitting on a shelf or at the bottom of a kids toy chest.

Thanksgiving is better. No one gets stressed about Thanksgiving. No one has high expectations for Thanksgiving. No one spends money they don't have for things people don't need for Thanksgiving. But, it gives family's a reason to get together and eat at Mom's house and watch football together when our busy lives don't allow that to happen every Sunday anymore. Thanksgiving is the best holiday. Easter too, I do like Easter.

I thought I would too. It was ok for a couple of years. Now, Xmas is a big hype and a let down. By Xmas Day afternoon, I was already thinking about (and dreading) when will I need to take the lights down.

Why aren’t you visiting the in-laws with your wife?

Probably because he isn't old enough to have lost his mind.

Christmas without kids kind of dead

Yep. I wasn’t a fan of Christmas throughout my 20s. Seemed like a waste of money and effort.

Had kids and I’m pretty much Buddy the Elf now.
