This and not just the Atlanta metro, it extends at least 20 miles outside of the I-285 perimeter...
Honorable mention goes to Chicago, NYC and LA.

Atlanta. Morning rush hour starts at 5:30 a.m. and ends about 10:30 a.m. Lunch rush hour starts at 10:30 and ends about 2:30. Evening rush hour starts about 2:30 and ends about 7:00 p.m.

quote:When I lived in Las Vegas the traffic problem was mainly on the west side of the city. If you lived on the east side traffic was actually pretty light for a city its size. One factor that I always noticed was the sun. The commuters on the west side would be driving into the rising sun and the setting sun causing visibility issues for drivers since the sun is seldom blocked by clouds.
Vegas surprises me, I would think with a large part of the workforce not working a typical 9-5 that rush hour wouldn't be as bad.

Over the past 10-15 years the SF Bay Area easily has rivaled LA. There are many times when it seems like every road in the 9 Bay Area Counties are completely gridlocked. The 101 from San Jose to SF sucks 24/7. Then you have that parking lot that forms every day northbound 101 from Petaluma Blvd. South through the Narrows from 3-7:30 and on summer weekends can extend 20 miles back to Central San Rafael. The 80/880/680/580 all blow all the time.

Yeah the 101 is terrible. I was in Hollywood last night and traffic heading home between Hollywood blvd and the 110 was 15-35 mph the whole way. That's not rush hour bad but this was 1030pm on a Sunday!

I worked north of Vegas and lived in Henderson for the summer of 2005. It was gridlock everyday on the ride home, and the people were a-hole drivers. I learned how to drive in L.A. and thought those drivers were nice compared to Vegas.
Well of course, this was prior to the total completion of the 215 Beltway. The traffic flows great on it now and it's much easier to get from N. Las Vegas to Henderson if you don't have to touch I15 which can get shitty at times.

Chicago is horrible any time of day
I rarely have taken a car into the city (usually take the short train ride in), but yeah 90/94 and 290 is a clusterfrick even at night.
i'll admit, I kind of enjoyed seeing the jams when i watched it from the sears tower back in the day

whatever the interstate/expressway between anaheim and L.A. is that's like 20 lanes wide and still becomes a parking lot is... not sure it can ever be wide enough

i live in los angeles buy new york city is far worse. what makes new york worse are all the tiny 1 way streets, maniac drivers that ignore the laws and pedestrians that walk through the street whenever and wherever they please.
i would never drive a car in nyc.
