That's what mileage is for.
State vehicles have gas cards assigned to each vehicle, part of the checks on how they are being used is to get receipts for every gas purchase as well as keeping a log (on which the driver logs trip mileage, origination/destination, etc). The gas receipts are used to verify against the credit balance.

If the receipts were not two foot long and full of advertisement the gas stores wouldn't have to refill them so often.

I'll just snap a picture of the pump and my accounts payable lady accepts it. I ain't walking inside.
ETA: a good way to know if you'll get a receipt or not is to look at the trash cans. If they're full or out of cleaning water, you're likely not getting a receipt.

I just take a picture of the screen. With that and the credit card statement, I can prove the Tax man, my deduction is legit. Probably am wrong but Ive only had small business and my deductions aren't high
