Agree with everything you put.

Like that bastard fricked me.
Read in a Port O Can during construction of Cortana Mall.
In 2019 simply substitute John Bel Edwards as it equally applies.

Nice. They paint these walls to stop my pen but the shithouse poet strikes again.

I’m not talking about new design jobs. I mean a simple leaking valve that needs to be swapped out. They might give me the line number, that’s it. I can find the line on the P&ID, but if it’s not running from a pump or tank nearby it’s impossible to find.if they would just type clearly where it is in the description it would make everyone’s job easier. I find it easy and don’t have to go bug them.

Also, operators who write up deficiencies so vague that we have to get them to come show us where it is in the field so we can plan it.
I’ll write a detailed work req three paragraphs long and simplified (because I know they don’t know anything my process). Only to be called in by the planner and asked to explain. Then asked to show them and give another explanation while in the field.
Doesn’t bother me one bit, honestly. But it makes me understand why an operator would write something up vaguely, because they know they have to explain it in person regardless.

It's their job to show you. I wouldn't feel bad about making someone do their job.
If they get pissy don't think twice about it. Someone who does that doesn't have much respect amongst their peers.

Typical egotistical plant operator.

We have computers to make this crap much easier now.

No, the operators I’ve dealt with have always been helpful. And to be honest, where I am now I’ve only had to get them to show me a handful of jobs. But I have to do a lot of digging to find many of them, when it could have been avoided with a little location detail in the work order. But I have a good working relationship with operators.
Question though. Why do y’all remove valve handles? :bang head:

Once walked into a control room to get a permit signed. I grew up with the kids of half the people in the room and they all looked at me like they had no clue who I was. Once they get inside that gate, they all think they're God.

I’ve never seen someone intentionally remove a valve handle.
Some of our steam valves at 30+ years old. Brittle handles and rusted valve stems can be a pain in the arse. But usually we let it break and just turn the stem with our pipe wrench

Have never seen someone remove one on purpose. There might be a scenario though.
Have seen them vibrate free before.

If I’m on the DCS and someone walks up to me with a permit I’d probably look at them funny too.
Then explain that permits are required to be filled out in the field and are done by outside operators not control room operators.

A removed handle is MUCH better than a handle in the middle of some grating

It was a monthly inspection. Happened all the time. The PM told me that was where I had to get my permit signed.

I’ve heard of some union plants doing weird stuff to make the jobs more complicated, for job security purposes.
Maybe that’s why?

Remove large quarter turn valve handles all the time here. Keeps the yard apes from bumping the valve open.
