.. but you can't have a movie theater and not show non-white movies
What's a non-white movie? Just enforce certain codes of decency (keep thugs and trash out) and you can show whatever you want.

"Take a stand" sounds good, but how?
Public can't control the schools (which is the biggest issue) thanks to the feds and the inept school board.
The demographics in BR were already bad with out migration into surrounding parishes (reason above) and Katrina didn't not help.
You gonna keep "them" out of your neighborhood? Realtors can't do that, nor can lenders. Landlords can't discriminate either.
Face it. Other than moving away from it, or living in a prohibitively expensive gated community (not everyone is an OT baller), it can't be stopped.

They're trying.
The influx of Kevin Hart movies has led to Perkins Rowe to taking the movie titles off of the individual theaters and in the lobby (to prevent the people sneaking in the side door for the movies).
It's also the first time I saw cops stationed inside the theater and in the hallways leading to the screenings.

Look at the reality of it. Unless decent folks of any stripe start taking a stand against the thugs and the garbage this is the fate that awaits any urban area.
This is not a racial thing, this is an issue of culture and decency. Unless productive citizens stand up and say "enough" to the flood of prolifically breeding ne'er-do-wells they will overwhelm and destroy everything that is decent.
It is a cancer. A cancer that left unchecked will destroy and has destroyed countless communities.
People of every creed, race and lot in life need to stand up against this blight or prepare for Detroit-hood.
I think if gas prices keep getting higher and as city traffic congestion gets worse, you will start to see it reverse. Some cities are already starting to see gentrification.

Downtown is already there. Now they're starting on the Government Street corridor.

This is dumb. In Detroit there are no jobs and dying economy. BR has lots of jobs and a booming economy

As I grow older, I cherish the times of my youth. Cortana Mall was a part of that innocence. Sadly, there is a season for all good things to come to an end.
Whether it had been Space Port, or Piccadilly, or that wonderful place to eat a corndog, the times have changed in Baton Rouge. One day, all that is good in Baton Rouge will be undone. It is what it is but it was what it was. no more.

This is the main issue. Wrest control of the schools away from the corrupt and into the hands of people who will make things happen.
Independent school districts are a step in the right direction.
A city government not in bed with the lowest common denominator is the next one.

Politics and money. It has to be people willing to stand up for the decent producers and not pander to the LCD and money behind them.

Parkway Place is much nicer.
Posted on 7/13/14 at 5:52 pm to lsufan9193969700
Place was ghetto since I last stepped in there back in 2004. I give it 5 more years.

It's clear that the majority prefers to put a "For Sale" sign in the front yard and let someone else deal with "the problem."

I saw a thing on TV the other day where an enterpriseing Spanish speaking type bought a closed mall. He basically turned it into a Mexican flea market with restaurants and live bands. It was doing well.

Getting to be? Last time I went in there, they had a coffin store on the 2nd floor.

Malls are failing everywhere, it is in no way a Baton Rouge centric problem. Mall of LA was one of the last malls ever built in this country. It was a dumb 80's era idea, that has just died a slow death. Cortana will probably get a second life as a business center much like Bon Marche did
