In all honesty, hard times make hard men. You never know how someone responds to adversity until said person is put in that situation. I can't tell you how many times I read and heard about young, naive and innocent farm boys who were molded into hardened soldiers when duty called. There were many, many men from many, many different walks of life when we joined the war. As the old saying goes, the tough get going when the going gets tough.

I mean anybody can take a bullet. Could they fight & win WW2 is the real question.

The real question is could we produce enough to fight a two theater war like we did back then? I have not doubt our soldiers would fight like hell. But, do we have the manufacturing capability anymore to fight that war? At the time, the entire country's economy switched to a war time economy. Everything was rationed. Gas, rubber, metal, fabrics, wood, everything. I'm not sure we could do that in a highly materialized society. Also, so much of our manufacturing is out sourced to other countries. At the time we manufactured everything here in the US. Now, everything is made in China, Taiwan, Mexico, where ever.

If we were to get in a conventional war with China 5-10 years from now we’d more than likely lose.

I know you are much more familiar with our military than myself, but I have to disagree. I think China would not be able to beat us head on. I think they would need to find a way to cripple us from the inside or by economic means.

I wonder how they supposedly learned to act like that? Could it possibly be from the generation that raised them?

It was dangerous then. We let kids be kids.
Now you have carpools because we can't trust kids to walk a block. Safe spaces because people are mean. It's why so many like the current leader. It's a big FU to the pussification.
Yeah, this is probably a part of it. But a small part. The real reason people are soft is Bc our modern society allows for people to be soft. Industrial farming, medicine, sanitation etc.
No one worries about starvation—even the poor on food stamps and welfare are often obese. Even the “poor” have flat screen TVs and cell phones. Relatively few do real manual labor. People don’t have to fight and scrap to survive. Mentally/emotionally, modern medicine has shielded us from such horrors as high infant mortality and infections. Of course, American ghettos are a harder life and thus produce harder people, but it’s still relative.
It’s a wonderful thing.

Every generation thinks the ones that come after them are worthless.
I remember years ago, when Paul Harvey did "The Rest of the Story," he did one where an older guy was bashing the shite out of the younger generation and went on and on about how worthless they were. The zinger at the end was that the guy wrote that stuff in ancient Greece a couple of hundred years B.C.

Totally agree with you. Today's youth would change drastically if they had to. The youth today don't have any real struggles so they have invented them. Humans adapt quickly and so would these turds.
