I am not a CPA but I can tell you with certainty that it is worth it. Some CPAs have the ability to quickly look over financials and spot problems. Its a gift some have and it is hard to put a price on it. High demand for a cut to the chase CPA. These are the heavy hitters.

Unlike the bar exam, which a trained monkey could pass (look at their pass rates), the CPA exam is actually hard and serves as a barrier to entry. Having it means you will always be in demand. Now granted, you actually have to enjoy the work you are doing (or at least be willing to do it and be unhappy).

It's an accomplishment to pass that can't be taken away. If you want a career in public, you will need it sooner rather than later, and even if you move over into industry, it's still very respected.

Get it knocked out before you have kids and get married, if you can. We tell our younger staff if you want to pass the first time, plan on 400 hours of studying.
